Until VAR doesn't stop me instantaneously celebrating goals (I haven't in 4 years of VAR - even our 3rd v Villa) I will detest it for robbing me of the joy of football. Those who support VAR are therefore joyless IMHO. The last few pages have proved my point in bucket loads.

Powers that be must be taking notice.

Talkshite has just been about VAR and attacking fans for their conspiracy theories when folks ring in asking wheres the consistency.

Not surprising at all.

Expect a “briefed” response whenever there are a rash of dubious (non)decisions.

Reactions: mat
I don’t think it’s down to corruption I genuinely think they are fooking useless
Newcastle c Palace why try fix that
Chelsea v West Ham as above
Brentford v Leeds as above
These are probably games that may not have any bearing on the title but all 3 had horrendous decisions ...........the whole VAR thing was brought in to make the refs life easier but in my opinion it’s making it even worse :( least Oliver had the balls to stick with his decision yesterday ........... and then you have Peter Walton the expert on BT now if these officials at VAR are like him then no wonder the games fooked :( honestly I would scrap it till you have folk in charge who can get these decisions right

"The Premier League is to review the controversial VAR decisions at Chelsea and Newcastle yesterday with referees’ organisation PGMOL as a matter of priority.

Key incidents from games are reviewed as a matter of course by a newly formed independent panel, which includes representatives of the Premier League, PGMOL and three former players.

The outcomes of these meetings are shared with clubs.

However, in the case of the specific incidents at Newcastle and Chelsea, there is concern at the Premier League about how the decisions came to be changed and they are looking for an explanation of that from PGMOL."

Anyone know who the three players are?

I fully support VAR - but that would be VAR MkII, not the God-forsaken, opaque, risible system we have now. And apologies for suggesting the current model is a 'system'!

As for the Coutinho goal ???? Did Ederson really make an effort to save it ???? Looked like a token gesture to me

I can't think of a single issue within and without football where I would regard HMP Walton as an expert. I think BT employ him 'cos they know he will feed their slanted narrative.

I Fuckin hate VAR with a passion. Killing the game. Just taken away one of the best premier league goals. NO ONE can excuse it this week. Not even Blue Hammer. Technically things might be right by millimetres but if they are contentious like that one and take 4 AND A HALF MINUTES is just not right. Only people who have never played the game or have shares in VAR believe that’s offside.

it's not a VAR issue anyway - the whistle had gone, so it wouldn't stand.
The player closest (Mahrez?) clearly stopped or he might have blocked the shot.

Haven't watched rugby for a long time but isn't it the referee who initiates a VAR review in rugby?

Rugby refs call on video if they can't see something in the act of scoring a try. RL refs call for it a lot for incidents in the build-up for a try, such as offside from a kick. They still have to make an onfield call on a try in case the video is unclear.

I do think it's an unfair comparison though - very little in rugby comes down to opinion/subjectiveness. They don't have to judge if a strike is on the right part of an arm, and offsides are not judged to the millimetre and have more lines on the pitch to assist a view (given the 'momentum' rule which allows passes to drift forward, it would be tricky for passes anyway).

None of our defenders blocked the shot (at least cancelo could have) and Ederson didn’t move, as the whistle had gone.

No surprise the media and everyone who see themselves as our rivals are making a bigger deal out of it than it is.

Dewey, Cheetum, and Howe

I would vote to scrap VAR

why? because every bad (or even correct) decision is being met with outrage and cries of corruption

so lets go back to football without VAR and lets really see if this makes everyone happier, if there is no more controversy every weekend and no debate about the officials decisions.

I would too.

Controversy creates content for the people who make money out of the game.

It would leave the game susceptible to corruption though a la Mike Riley in the rags vs Tarquin game in about 06.
