Venice

Only been to Venice once back in the mid 90s.
Stayed in Verona and caught the train there for a day trip.
Not sure what it's like now, but my memory of the place is that it stunk of blocked drains!
Got to be honest that I actually preferred Verona. There were a lot less tourists around and the food and drink prices were much more reasonable.

Verona is beautiful. Went there for the opera festival a couple of years ago. It was absolutely packed then.

Don’t listen to the negative posts and judge for yourself ( Chris, you should know better).

Day trippers do not see the real Venice but they think they have.
Absolutely idyllic place unique it’s its wonder.

Get yourself out of the central madness around Rialto and get sat by a canal in one of the little waterside eatery booths , get an Aperol Spritz in your hand , eat lovely fresh pasta and just take in the day to day life of living in a city in the middle of a lagoon.I watched a funeral cortège, a skip wagon and a police boat pass me by virtually one after the other, all afloat , just bizzare.
