Vet Fees

My Staffie's insurance crept up from under £300 a year to nearly £900 in 3 years so l rang.the insurers. They have a big office near Boltons ground.
I thought there had been a mistake and rang them up. A very sympathetic and embarrassed sounding woman said it was purely because of her age (9).
So l cancelled the insurance and running the risk l am about 700 quid up this past year. She had a touch of Arthur and it was £140 for a blood test and 6 anti inflammatory tablets.
Not only do the vets and insurers have you by the balls we are on a scheme with the vet for a regular check up and keeping all jabs up to date. The jabs are necessary for the kennels when we used to go to Greece. Fortunately the kennels fees have always been kept reasonable as is her food.

They have got steadily worse over the years, our last three dogs we have had insurance for and the last one had a lot going on towards the end and Pet Plan were superb.

We had one dog whom we had to have put to sleep and we were distraught obviously, the VET which was Heywood Vet wouldn’t even charge us.

One thing that does really piss me off is there are is no continuity with vets anymore they rely on a lot of locums

No it doesnt. And thats bad they do that. But its like people moaning about teachers hols. We can all join the jolly if we wish!!
There are many meds being prescribed by vets for high fees that are available over the counter at pharmacies for far less.

I know what your implying but its not the point. GP’s do about 11 years including med school and post degree training and qualifications before they can work in a practice......with a top salary of £90k.

Does it matter what I did, not relevant.
Top?
UK GP average salary is £98K and my bro in law retired as a GP a few years ago because he had maxed his pension out. At the time he was on over £150K.

My dog has cushings. He has used up his insurance. . and Cost me 2k in December, 400 pound in February and my precious little hero is again on the slide. He is a fighter and while he still chases his ball, enjoys his dinner and likes his walks I pay it. On top of this his meds are £70.00 a month. I luv the fella.

I heard some guy say all pets 'live in the moment' that meaning, you can not thwart it's future desires, because it doesn't have any to thwart.. no capacity in it's stupid brain to look forward to breakfast.. so it can never be a harm to kill one in its sleep.. if we all thought that way, I reckon vets would be way cheaper, and almost defunct really
Mellow.

Allow me to introduce you to the Ian Brown thread.

My ex recently came to me to borrow money, her cat got savaged by either a dog or fox, resulting in him needing a back leg amputated, he was also neutered, the bill for both surgeries was £900, I would say you've been scammed.
And there lies the issue - without regulation, vets can charge whatever they wish and, believe me, the costs of treatment and insurance are spiraling out of control.
