Vieira on loan (Merged)

Nobody was complaining this much when we got Sylvinho...and were even getting this guy ON LOAN FOR 6 MONTHS...

Who cares if he doesnt perform? he'll help out with mentality and give de Jong, Kompany, Barry, Ireland and Johnson some tips as well as providing world class, ultra-experienced cover for them.

he probobly wont get in the first team anyway, and FFS ITS A 6 MONTH LOAN, its pretty much that he's having a TRIAL with us...

Lyon have looked to distance themselves from making a move for Inter Milan midfielder Patrick Vieira in January.

The 33-year-old is keen to leave the Nerazzurri, having fallen out of favour with manager Jose Mourinho, and rescue his World Cup hopes with France.

Manchester City have been most strongly linked with the former Arsenal star where Vieira would link up once more with ex-Inter boss Roberto Mancini.

The experience that he has is invaluable. But if the rumours in the press is correct, that he wants to leave Inter to get playing time, then i don´t understand why he would want to come to Manchester City or why Mancini would want him.

Where's Toure gone? AcON. Where can Kompany play? CB. Where are we short of men? CB. If Kompany goes to CB, who covers CDM if NDJ and/or Barry get injured? Vieira, most likely to be actually playing.

10.50 Lyon have confirmed an interest in signing Patrick Vieira, but admit other clubs are keen on the Inter Milan midfielder. Manchester City and Barcelona are rumoured to be leading the chase for the former Arsenal captain

He would be useless to Lyon, as he is ineligible for the CL.

A report in the Sun has an "advisor" to the Lyon president stating pretty much that. That they were interested in Viera but that he would be ineligble for the Champion's League and other clubs were interested in him, meaning they weren't willing to pay top dollar for him. The press is also now saying that ManCity are planning to offer him £150,000-a-week which sounds a tad out there to me. That's an awfully expensive squad player.

There are several quotes from Mancini about Viera, but the one I found most interesting was this:

"All the players want to join Manchester City," he said. "That is normal with a big club who is going to have a big future.

"People are not only talking about Patrick Vieira, they are also saying Ivan Cordoba and Cristian Chivu"

Funny thing is I can't find any press reports linking Manchester City to Cristian Chivu other than this quote from Mancini. Wonder if that means something?

I thought it was mentioned a while back that Barry is.delaying an op at moment? May be linked to that.

Hold on... on loan still means we have to pay his wages right? If he really earns 150000 a week then he would cost us 3.6million. That is quite a lot of money for a 6 month contract....

But without being silly about it, the time it took you to type that post was the same time it took for the Sheikh to pay Vieiras first weeks wages. It is like you having a thousand pounds in 10p's in your pockets, and spending one of those 10 p's, only to find 20p a minute later. It is nothing and if he improves the team, what do we care? its not our money!

Vieira?

What do you think? According to the Beeb's football site Bobby Manc is interested in signing him. Do you think at 33 he'd be up to it?
In his day he was arguably one of the best midfileders in the world, but he's had a few injuries and at his age he's obviously well past his best.

Who knows? Could be an inspired signing, or a total flop.

Edit. Just seen the previous topic about him. Sorry chaps.
