Chelsea insist they have not made a bid for Real Madrid-bound Valencia striker David Villa.

The Blues' Spanish scout, Juan Cruz Sol, met with Los Che president Manuel Llorente in the club's headquarters on Thursday to discuss the future of the 27-year-old striker.

Cruz Sol spoke to the Spanish media after the meeting, with Valencian newspaper Levante quoting him as saying: "Chelsea made an important offer for him (Villa). But the answer (from Valencia) was 'no' because negotiations with Real Madrid are very advanced."

He added: "Hence, there's no possibility that Villa will go to Chelsea because he wants to go to Real Madrid.

"The purpose of the meeting was to have have some contact and know with certainty what Villa's situation is. Now we have clear ideas and we know that to expect."

A Chelsea spokesman said no formal bid was made after exploratory discussions with the financially-stricken La Liga outfit.

"We have made no offer for David Villa," he said.

Valencia president Llorente earlier revealed an offer for Villa had been received but refused to confirm whether it was from Chelsea.

He told regional newspaper Las Provincias: "Yes, we have an offer for Villa but not from Spain."

perhaps it was us who made the formal bid?

He's in talks with Madrid.

Chelsea didn't bid for him in the same way they "didn't bid for Kaka."

but it makes no difference anyway; Villa doesn't want to play for us or in England; money cannot change those facts and fair enough; why should a club be able to force him to go where he doesn't want to play? Players have the right to an opinion on where they are going to work, just as you do.
 
Been sayıng thıs about superstars for a whıle but there ıs absolutely no guarantee thıs works for them. You can chuck ın 5 superstars there ıs no guarantee they wıll connect and play as a unıt ıs there and then what do you do when one of them starts playıng badly or they have a fallout because each of them ıs used to beıng the bıg fısh ın the small pond. You cant drop them because they cost so much money so do you let ythe team suffer for the superstar or go agaınst the presıdent and not play the superstar ın whıch case they wıll promptly upstıcks and go.

Most succesful teams have one maybe 2 superstars wıth lots of v good players packed around them and thıs seems to be the way to go. RM are bankıng on alot of superstars workıng wıth each other and thıs may work ıt may not. It may go great and ıt may not but ıf ıt doesnt you can guarantee thıs bıg name players wıll be wantıng out as fast as theır overpaıd legs can carry theır egos. Everty sıngle one of them ıs ın ıt for themselves and not one of them ıs gonna enjoy not beıng the superstar name. It wıll be ınterestıng to watch ıf nothıng else.
