Anybody know how bad his latest calf injury actually is.

It seems to go from getting better to getting worse to no comment.

I notice he and Kun ( I think at least ) were not involved in the latest training session posted online so I figure we won't be seeing Vincent anytime soon.

Personally I think Pep wants a new CB in the summer to replace him as he can't rely on him anymore being fit for enough games anymore I have to concur with that.

He is also on the record as saying we need to find a replacement for Ferny and David as well as another fullback so I suspect we might go for 4-5 new players in the summer.

With the way teams can improve dramatically from one season to the next now ( ala Liverpool this year 13 points ahead of last years points total at the same time ) its what is needed now if you are to compete for the title effectively year upon year.

Seems to be one thing after another for Vinny. He is a beast when fit but it’s sadly not often enough nowadays.

It used to be really worrying when Vinny was injured we had players like Mangala coming in to the team , but with Stones , Otto , Laporte and the emerging Garcia we have strength in depth , hopefully Vinny gets another couple of years on his contract , but i think we are witnessing his twilight years as a truly great Manchester City footballer , used to think he was irreplaceable but time moves on.

Id love to see him playing with Garcia when he's fit to impart some of the incredible knowledge he has on the game onto Garcia. Could really be something special

He will do that as player/defence coach from next season onwards, on his way to learning to be our future manager and prime minister of Belgium.

And yet he probably had his best game in a number of seasons against the dippers...

I’ve kind of gone full swing on the notion that he needs to be replaced, if he’s fit for 8/9 big games a year and he’s the difference (which he invariably is) then he deserves the extension in my book. You can’t buy his leadership qualities, he just puts everyone at ease and leads by example. Without komps v the dippers you don’t get the intensity of Bernardo etc:....

The season isn’t anywhere near over and we’ll need those qualities again, sure of it....

Put it this way, I’d want him starting in any finals that ensue!

Whilst I agree with most of that, I really do like the Stones/Laporte pairing and less chance of a red in a CL final with those two.

I think the potential of the Stones / Laporte partnership is immense. Wash my mouth out but I can't help being reminded of Hansen / Lawrenson.

On Vinnie, he has to be kept at the club. I'd make him a player-coach next season.

Unless Otamendi or Vinny demand a transfer, or a young cb better than Stones & Laporte who is a lifelong City fan, & is begging us to sign him emerges, why not just leave things as they are ?

The status quo is perfect for us. Kompany can hang around for a year while we see if Garcia or Sandler are the real deal. If one of them really excels and gets ahead of him then he can take on a more plauer/coach role or leave with the clubs best wishes for Anderlecht or somewhere similar. Of not we can replace him with a proper signing in 18 months time.

So long as we retain Otters... CB is the least of our worries. We need a world-class replacement at DM - Fernandinho's expiration date is fast approaching.

from Pep's comments, about being unsure what we are going to do with Vinnie when his contracts up this summer, his injury record being an issue. We are defiantly going to be busy in the summer needing a centre half as well as to cover the ageing Fernandinho

Not good news re Vinny we missed his leadership qualities in midweek. Had he been fit and played he is inspirational to others. I hope we see him back very soon. Difficult one for the powers that be come the summer when I am advised his contract is up.

Anyone got the feeling that without actually coming out and saying it Pep feels that Vinnie should either retire or move on in in the summer?

Unfortunately there is no sign of his chronic injury problems easing after three blighted seasons.

Only played 9 league games unfortunately. I don’t think anyone else will sign him and I don’t believe that he would want to play for anyone else in the premier league unless it was a excellent deal.

Regardless of the deal he would never play for another prem team,i think we should keep him on as captain maybe on a pay as you play deal,if he wants to keep playing,he is still the man i would want in the trenches as he is still a good player and leader

Worth keeping as a fourth choice for cup matches, big games and lifting trophies if he's happy with that. No need to sell him (because nobody will buy him), no need to play him as often as we once did (because we have Stones and Laporte), no need to let him rot away in the reserves (because he's good enough when fit). The best solution is to have him start 5-10 league games per season and make up other appearances when he can. One of Pep's biggest accomplishments at City is moving us completely away from relying on Kompany and Yaya to win things, and it means we can offer a realistic situation to Vinny whereby he plays a lot less than he used to but still has a role in the dressing room.
