Vincent Kompany | Bayern Munich Manager

Not a fair comparison. KK had money to build in the Championship and then again in the PL. What Kompany did with a depleted squad to storm that league was exceptional. Given limited funds he chose to stick with his playing style in the PL which maybe was naive but the alternative would have been to turn into a Sheffield united and grind out some draws, but still be relegated. Whether he deserved the job is another question but they saw his style and what he could do with technically inferior players and took a punt.
You mean the squad that just came down from the prem? He hardly was running a pub team. They had a great season in the championship. They had a terrible season in the prem. Bayern did take a punt and it is why he wasn't first choice. If it is the man you want you don't "punt" on them. I would love him to be our boss one day but on merit rather than name.

Yep I mean that one. Relegated with a £65m debt that had to shift its best players (e.g. Pope, McNeil, Mee, Collins, Tarkowksi), he used his contacts in Belgium to bring in largely unknowns, contacts at City and loan deals. It's quite universally accepted that the job he did in that season was pretty remarkable.

He can manage that team to 'success' in that league.

Managing City or anyone else to success in the PL or CL is a very different challenge.

In one you have to win 90 points to be in contention.

In the other you need good fortune and (usually) a very good team.

Vinyl remains an unknown quality as a manager and I doubt that City will take any risks now or in the future.

I'd hate to see Vinnys legacy as a player tarnished by his failure with us as a manager !!
Is that on the record?

After the promotion, he also lost his top scorer, left back and center back (THB), who all played a very important role in his system iirc.
