Voter ID is back and this time its serious.

Generally although not always Tory voters tend to be more affluent.

If you are more affluent, you are more likely to own a passport, have a driving licence etc.

My mam's 87 years old and always voted, I suspect she has always voted Labour, but I do not know, it is not my business, she has never had a passport and has never had a driving licence.

When my dad passed away she didn't even have a Bank account as my dad did the money and he gave my mam a wage every week. All the bills were in my dads name, it was almost like she did not exist. It was only thanks to the understanding of a very kind Bank Manager was I able to open her a bank account so she could access money.

As a democrat first and foremost my worry is people like my mam will become disenfranchised. She is lucky, she has me who can sort out things for her, but if there are people like her who do not have a son or daughter like me who is able to sort things out then I fear they will simply not bother. They will become forgotten and have no representation. Democracy is about representation for every single one of us and if one person has no representation then we cease to become a democracy.

I do not care how people vote, i care that people can vote if they wish too. This proposed legislation makes it harder for people to vote and as a democrat i find that abhorrent. Voting could become the preserve of the few and democracy should be about all. People died fighting for the right to vote and it is not something anybody should ever consider giving up lightly because who knows what restrictions could come in the future.

There is simply no basis for this legislation, as i stated one person was convicted of voting fraud at the last election, that f course is one too many, but we would we stop everyone from driving because one person broke the speed limit.

Torys just being Torys.

Redrawing boundaries is absolutely right given the transient nature of people; MPs should broadly represent the same number of citizens so they need redrawing from time to time.

Absolutely. The only question is who gets to do the redrawing and when. We don't want to end up in a situation like America.

But the boundaries are redrawn on information that disadvantages those with lower incomes who are more likely to be in rented accommodation in their own homes and more likely to move more often.

Redrawing of constituency boundaries is the responsibility of the Electoral Commission and should be free of any political interference. The question you should be asking is ''Why did the Tories put it in their manifesto?''

Perhaps .... just perhaps they want them redrawn to suit themselves.

Round our way the electoral commission was happy to preserve a boundary between two constituencies that follows some ancient water course but now goes through the middles of houses.

But on the same size of constituencies they are following a law that favours places with a stable population, and people rich enough to have multiple homes. People can't vote in different parliamentary areas but they're on the electoral register so skew "the electorate".

No but everyone driving needs a photo id to do so legally. They also need to be instructed on how to drive in a certain way that is deemed acceptable by the authorities and pass a test demonstrating their adherence to the "correct" way to drive.

I agree though that voting shouldn't be that difficult

Why do we not have a system where you turn up to your polling booth, say your name and DOB and they can pull up a picture of you?

I can understand why photo ID should be required as it certainly makes democracy more secure, but the requirements for ID should come with it a means of getting such ID for free.

The right to vote shouldn't be tied to your ability to pay for a passport that you may never use or learning to drive.

Johnson is facing more inquiries into his misdemeanours than there were incidents of voter fraud at the last election.

I wonder why this Government, a Government that is possibly the most authoritarian Government in my lifetime introducing this legislation?

Is it to stop the 1 person convicted of voting fraud, yes 1 person.

Or

Is it to make sure that millions will not vote, so ensuring a majority for the Conservative's in eternity.

This legislation is the equivalent of banning people from Mars from owning ice cream parlours in Audenshaw.
It seems Johnson is taking a page out of the Trump/Rep handbook of voter suppression. From a guy who said he woukd eat an ID card. Well, just another lie from a lying bastard who has just been emboldened by a country that doesn't mind lying thieving bastards running their gaff. Just like the fucking morons who voted for Trump who don't care how crooked he was. Shameful and worse, really sad that intelligence and integrity are looked at as weakness. Land of Hope and Swindlers.

There are still valid paper licences without photos in existence.
