Wasting money on expensive items

I can afford to buy the watch. I can. I've done what you said above. But spending 50k on a watch? Madness. It's the same with cars. I have an old Jag. An old pick up truck...I blame the fake yank for that purchase. I have a few thousand records. My house is modest. Enough and a bit for our needs. I could buy bigger and still be mortgage free but what's the point? I like camping. Sure every now and then I might splurge on a decent hotel but it's not an every day thing. I mainly fly normal class...unless it's longer than 3 hours. But that's a leg room/ comfort/ free drinks thing.

The picture of that restaurant owner with the bar bill is ridiculous. And completely classless. it's flash. It's everything I dislike about today's society.

But hey, if people want to spend over 1500 quid on a steak or 9 quid on a coke, then who am I to argue. It's only one life, do what you want.

Think the latter part of this has got you to a tee mate ;-)

It's like people who buy lambos etc and drive them in Central London. Utterly pointless.

I have a watch. It's from 1965. A classic piece that tells the time.

It's my Dad's old one. I have a photo of me as a baby with him holding me. He's wearing the watch.

Means far more to me than wanking 50k on a Rolex.
But that's you. Not everyone is you. The freedom to choose is a wonderful thing.

Absolutely and who wouldn’t want a watch that makes you a target to be robbed at gunpoint?
But so can a car and a house. Looking at recent crime stats, just walking along a street makes you a target for robbery. Students for their bank cards or a teenager for his phone. A watch doesn't make you more vulnerable.

You get what you pay for is my motto. Mrs MB has a couple of handbags, first one I brought her in 1999 for £350. It’s still immaculate, you could spend £20 on a bag from Hyde market and it’s fucked in 6 months… so 350/22 = just under £16 a year. We have daughters so each will inherit a bag and remember their mam..which is far nicer than a couple of quid. What I don’t understand is people who spend good money on fakes from them shops around Oldham Road and that… they are always worse quality than the £20 whatever clobber from the market - those who know what it is, know it’s fake and those who don’t don’t know what the real one costs anyways …just save up and buy the real thing if you can happily spend 50-100 on a fake you can save the money to buy the real thing.

Similarly I spend a few quid on shoes and suits and they last me a few years… same logic when you divide cost / years service they are cheaper than buying something from next or the such. They are also nice to wear so it’s win win.
Most of us don’t wear spats, tail coats and capes.

To be honest I never understood people paying a lot for stuff but then my brother decided to sell the buisness he had worked really hard building up for about 35 years,
More or less the week after he was told he had cancer,
He is now treating himself to a new car, a mobile home, nice watch etc while he still can & I say crack on mate enjoy your money you have hard earned & dont let any sad miserable twats put you off doing what you want.
(mind you he still wont lend me a tenner)
Whilst sad about the cancer why can't he do that anyway. He worked hard and should be able to spend the profits of that hard work. If it transpires that someone on BM thinks he's a dick, tough. It's his wedge good on him.
