Watford (H) | Post-Match Thread

Square pegs in round holes.Grealish and others, notably Foden and Bernardo, are affected by this.
We have too many players, with similar attributes, who are all competing for similar space. It weakens both individual performance and the team cohesion.
Today, it seemed like Sterling and Grealish were within touching distance around the edge of the box, and neither of them got anything out of it.

Tbf to Grealish, it’s hard to know where he fits into the squad. Is he a left midfielder or a left winger? If he’s a left mid, then is he playing better than Gundo, Bernardo or Foden…let alone Cancelo, who has been more productive than him on the left?

If he’s a left winger, is he ever going to take a man on? Take him to the line? Put in the killer pass for a goal? Come inside and curl one in? He tried that today, but it was blocked.

It is going to be a very interesting summer. I wouldn’t put money on who will and will not still be here, or who we might bring in. Haaland is sucking all the oxygen out of the “summer transfer” room at the moment, but we need much, much more than just him.

With Alvarez coming, too, who will be considered surplus to requirements, or simply no longer good enough to take a “foreign player” slot?

We paid a serious premium to get Grealish, and that must have been for a reason. To date, I have yet to see that reason show itself on the field. He us a flair player who looks like he is being chained, so as not to lose the ball. However, behind him, we have a “flair” LB, who tries nutmegs on the halfway line with the whole midfield ahead of the ball!!

Maybe if we tried to keep the “flair” for around the box, it might free up Grealish to be himself, while tightening up Cancelo’s penchant for a one on one dribble in our own half?!

Interesting times!

I’ll take 5 more 1-0 victories in the PL, plus 3 more in the CL, and leave the negative Grealish talking to others, as it’s reaching some volume over here! Being compared to Jota and Diaz at LiVARpool does Jack no favors, especially when they throw in a price tag that he had no control over!

However, winning a Winners Medal, and having had ANY contribution, is the best answer to any and all critics!

Come on, Jack & Come on, City!!!

Not true, the game buffered for about 4 minutes after our penalty was awarded.
I've still no idea why they were looking at it so long.
I guess the paying customer's at the ground don't matter.
They weren’t, but Freund wasn’t getting the message on the field! The Comms were broken!

The TV audience knew it had been given for at least 2 of those 3 minutes. In the end, Moss (4th) and the pitchside PL Match Official agreed to shuttle info to him, if needed.

Between the awarding of the penalty and the taking if it, it was exactly 3 mins. That means there was zero other stoppage time awarded for the other goals or substitutes, let alone player injuries!

That’s what early goals do. We bossed them in what was a very good performance.

Pity we conceded one shot on goal that went in as well. Think Laporte could’ve blocked it with a tackle.
And pity we didn’t add more with 25us minutes on the clock.

Finally very happy for Jesus. In every way. Now just imagine he would keep this going for the remaining games?! Well done.

We managed to rest a few players and got the result we needed, so it worked out well. Could have got more goals but took our foot off the gas and coasted for the last 20 mins, can't complain overall though. Some really good goals yesterday, Rodri's thunderbastard and Jesus's last one were the pick for me.

Sterling should have had a couple of goals and there were a couple of defensive lapses but just about as easy a game as we could have hoped for.

Fair play to the Watford fans who came, it must be a nightmare playing us for them.

Not seen the stats but goals to chances yesterday must be right up there for the season. And it’s thanks largely to one man for an inspired and determined performance. Take a bow, Gabby.

Rodders’ thunderous goal was pleasing on the eye too.

Good prep for Tuesday. Not too strenuous and key players rested.

Bizzarre that Gabby chooses the day he is alleged to be on his way to Arsenal to put in that performance. He was absolutely on fire. Hope he stays.

You're missing my point though.

No team will ever have 18 / 20 Roy of the Rovers type players,

You have your Top Drawer and your Second Drawer.

If the second Drawer can slot in and do a job then you won't be far wrong.

Gabby comes in today and scores 4!

Rashford (for example) comes in and touches the ball 4 times (all shite touches).

Haaland will come in as Top Drawer, but won't and can't play every game.

100m for RS I'd consider it,
GJ, stays.
No way will any club pay anywhere near that for Sterling, his contract has just over one year to go, may as well take 20/30m and free up wages for another player. With him and Ferdy going I think a striker and a midfielder are a priority, I know Alavarez is on his way but will probably be here to integrate after the World Cup.

Have yo agree with you. Left home at 7am got back at 11:30pm and yet I still have no idea why VAR took so long to give the penalty. Nothing on the big screens in the grounds and couldnt find anything on line as to why it took so long.

You give up all that time and money and yet you are left completely in the dark as to what is going on with VAR. It's a fucking disgrace the way VAR treat match going fans.

Moan over !

Enjoyed the game, felt very odd being sat in the away end above the Watford fans lol. Wasnt the best due to lots of young families but we have to start replacing us old ones ;). Even got out of the car park easy, and the roads were very quiet.

Nice to see Jesus get his goals, if he is happy to stay than we should keep him. I have always liked Jesus. Perhaps we should look to move on someone else. That said I thought Sterling played well worked very hard.

Was there a section of Ukraine fans there yesterday Zinchenko spent a long time waving and went a gave his shirt to someone over there. He played really well.

See all on tursday :)
