Watford (H) | Post-Match Thread

I like the guy but there's something lacking, either confidance or skill and for £100m it shouldn't be either of them. Although and as mentioned he does draw players to himself opening up other areas. At Villa he was a big fish in a small pond and City are no small pond.I'm sure and hope Pep sees it differently.

I remember when Ilkay was getting pelters from some 'supporters', look at him now. Ake got a lot of stick. Bernardo had a bit of criticism after 2 or 3 lacklustre performances. Zinchenko was on the verge of having to leave City. Foden, Stones,Yaya, Tevez, Balotelli and so many more have been scapegoated over the years for one reason or another.
Ok, chat about it on a forum or in the pub, but don't abuse them in the stadium.
The players are not just players, they are also human beings. No one can know if they are carrying a bit of an injury or something is affecting them in their personal lives.
It is impossible for every player to perform at 100% in every game they play, just so long as they are trying their best, that's all I want.

Amen to that.

We don't pay 100 million to players for retaining ball.
We have lots of them and grealish is no where top. Gundo, silva, rodri are masters in tight spaces.
Pep never told any one not to pass or score or shoot. Rodri did that today. Pep is only concern on losing the ball in midfield
We could play Zinchenko on the left wing and he wouldn't give the ball away. We really need so much more.

I think in general City fans have a decent appreciation for giving every player a season's "grace" , for want of a better word, and many continue to do that with Grealish but yesterday's game felt a bit watershed in terms of general sentiment as he really stood out as not playing particularly well against very poor and beaten opposition. Weirdly he perked up towards the end when everyone else had checked out.

I for one hope he brings a fear factor to the pitch next season but he won't be trusted as a starter in any big game for the remainder of this season, unless injuries dictate.

It was concerning yesterday how slow he was to get the ball out of his feet, which perhaps explains why he is always fouled within three yards.

He needs a big moment and then I think he will kick on, we underestimate how daunting it must be to play for this manager and this team.

Games like yesterday are where him and Sterling have a perfect platform to really shine, as Jesus was able to show.

Forget for a minute on grealish transfer price (50 or 100 million) the guy needs time obviously to intergrate with this squad. Has others have stated on here other players were getting pelters in their first season and with the exemption of Mendy they have come on leap and bounds. So let’s give the man some slack and hopefully next season why pep wanted him here.
