We can still qualify and it is very possible

I am more annoyed that we might not go through because of the teams we could potentially get as group runners up in the next round, we are capable of beating a few of them over 2 legs:

A Madrid
R Madrid
Bayern Leverkusen
Dortmund
PSG/Barca
Porto

There is only R Madrid and the winner of PSG/Barca that we would want to avoid

No prizes for guessing which ones we would draw.........

Sky Sports Maths ???

Sky Sports are saying we must win today and the other game has to be a draw, if we are to have any chance of going through.
Well unless senility has crept on faster than I thought......................they have that wrong !!!!!!

Re: Sky Sports Maths ???

For my poor maths best result is a Roma win and we have to beat BM.

Then it is back in our own hands and we have to beat Roma to go through.

That is how I see it.

Re: Sky Sports Maths ???

Best result in the CSKA - Roma game would probably be a draw . If we were to pull off a win tonight that would put us all on 5 points . Think we'd still be bottom of our group on head to head but a win in Rome and Bayern to draw with or beat CSKA in Germany would be enough for us

Re: Sky Sports Maths ???

Weird because the Metro newspaper this morning said that even if City win, if Moscow & Roma draw, we are out. Now, i worked this scenario out as all three of City, Roma & Moscow would be sitting on 5 points with the last round of games to go.

Re: Sky Sports Maths ???

Best scenario is a draw and city win. That way any score draw in Rome along with a Bayern win puts us through.

Re: Sky Sports Maths ???

If we draw then we need CSKA and Roma to draw, that would put us 3 points behind both, so we'd need to beat Roma in the last game, and CSKA would need to lose to Bayern for us to qualify. As CSKA, City and Roma, in that scenario, would all be on 6 points, then head to head results can't be used (we'd have a better head to head against Roma, but worse against CSKA, Roma would have a better head to head than CSKA but worse against City, and CSKA would have a better head to head against City, but worse against Roma) so it would go down to goal difference. We'd go into the Roma game on -2 Goal Difference, whereas Roma and CSKA would have -4 each. Even if we only win 1-0, and CSKA only lose 1-0, then that would be enough for us to be 2nd, with 6 points and a -1 GD, Roma and CSKA would also have 6 points, but both would have a -5 GD.

So, ideally we need to beat Bayern, but a draw, dependent upon the result in Moscow, would be enough. A defeat sees us out regardless.

We'll actually know, pre-kick off, if a draw is good enough or not as CSKA V Roma is a 5pm kickoff so will have finished by the time we start against Bayern.

Re: Sky Sports Maths ???

There is no need for maths. Its in our hands still because never in a million years CSKA will get something at Munich. Just beat BM and Roma, job done.

Even if CSKA win tonight, they still need to get draw at Munich.

That would put us on 6 points, CSKA and Roma would only be on 5. We can afford to lose tonight if Roma and CSKA draw. Then a win in Roma together with a Bayern win would leave the three tied on 5 points. But if CSKA or Roma win tonight, anything short of a win for us will see us knocked out.

The goal difference would exclude games against Bayern. At the moment Roma are +4, CSKA -3 and us -1.
