Wearing your City top in public

Going up to someone in public and having a go because of the football shirt they’re wearing is pretty pathetic.

Yet it regularly happens so it’s something to be aware of.

The Liverpool fan giving it all “Come on you Redmen” at me some two hours in to my time in Wavertree. He then asked his friend (or his carer) when Bale had played for them as he didn’t remember that.

It was a Wales Euro 2016 shirt. He didn’t recognise his own club’s top.

Remember walking through the sports hall at centre parks in Penrith and a Scouser shouted something in my face I just laughed.
I also remember being in the Anchor pub in Flookburgh many years ago ... Lakeland holiday park near by full of Liverpool fans....I don't know why to this day but after being on the piss all day a friend and I got up to do karaoke and seeing my audience decided to give you'll never walk alone a go....my mate also a blue questioned my decision and i said trust me... halfway through I had them stood on chairs swaying from side to side...then i just stopped and started SHOUTING OH MANCHESTER OH MANCHESTER IS WONDERFUL ITS FULL TITS FANNY AND CITY the place erupted and after having an ashtray thrown at me I tried telling them to calm down calm down.
Then we were escorted out of the building and had to leg it.
Never done anything like that before or after unfortunately the lad that sang with me died last month aged 51 (Rip Jay) and the story was brought up at his wake.

I like to wear something City at every match I go to but will keep a hoodie or jacket on over it as I make my way to Lime Street.

I just can’t be bothered with looks and comments from Northamptonshire types giving it some on their big day out in Dipperpool.

I made one of my best friends in the world by approaching a lad in a football top 35 years ago and asking him about his team. Gillingham shirt as it turned out. We still drink together.

For me, this is what football should be. I don’t hold with banter culture crap. It is no more than an excuse to behave like a twat, and a piss poor excuse at that.

For me, this is what football should be. I don’t hold with banter culture crap. It is no more than an excuse to behave like a twat, and a piss poor excuse at that.

Draw the line at rags and scousers though.

In fact seeing a scouse shirt is a good warning to zip up your valuables and check you have locking wheel nuts on your car.

I'm similar to OP in that I like to be left alone when I'm out. Can't even be arsed with "banter" really, I just don't like having conversations with people I don't know when I've got shit to do. So it's a rare day I'll wear a City shirt when I'm not planning on going to a game. Still not forgotten the morning after the Champions League final though when I went out in my shirt to Tesco - as soon as I got out the car some United fan drove past me shouting "You've got shit in your shirt mate!" Didn't even look at him cos I was walking on air. Still can't be arsed, though. When I'm out in Manchester itself I'll chance it cos City shirts are dime a dozen in town but out in the suburbs where I live I'm within a mile of Stockport's ground and 50% of their fanbase are United first.

Nothing wrong with giving each other a bit of good natured stick. Mutual banter amongst friends is what it’s all about.

However, I did notice it more and more as we got good. London in particular was bad for it. We had our City Pride nights in Farringdon and fans of all sorts of clubs would start having a go at us.

I always gave it back but when you’re there to watch the match then it does bother you.

I wear something City every day; whether it's a shirt, badge or lanyard.

I will go into potential hostile territory the same way and IDGAF either.

I've never changed this, but seeing a lot more people wear our gear is satisfying.

Get a nice buzz by bigging up kids walking with parents wearing City tops and seeing them beam.

Nice to make their day.
