Don't talk shite. Barton grabbed the gooner by the collar of his shirt. Violent conduct, therefore a red card. Should have been a yellow card for Gervinho and a red for the scouse twat.

this is not violent conduct mate. he didnt strike or spit at the opponent. it comes down to interpretation, but most refs wouldnt send off a player for this. and im not talking shite as you so nicely put it
So; let me get this straight. You are saying that Barton's actions did not constitute violent conduct then (or possible incitement), yes? Hmm. By the way, apologies if the ''shite'' comment upset you (as it seems that it might have). Maybe I could have phrased it slightly differently. ''Talk ''rubbish'', maybe?

haha. didnt upset me.
im saying that barton dragging gervinho up doesn't constitute violent conduct. and most refs would agree.

Most times when people pick up a diving player, it's by the shoulders, not the neck.

yes i agree.
im trying to explain what barfton did , most refs would show him a yellow.
it is down to the refs interpretation.
the fact that it is being discussed on here shows that it divides opinion.
and in my opinion a yellow for barton was enough

Fair enough; we'll have to agree to disagree. Barton's is a red card every day of the week for me. And once Gervinho hit him with that stunning right-hander (!), he had to go as well.

And since the ball was active, it should have been a penalty to Arsenal.

hahah !
thats the beauty of football, different opinions.
the ref was maybe lenient, and another ref may have seen it the way you saw it and red carded him.
anyway the pubs calling.
laters

Gervinho dived to cheat and earn his team a penalty. The referee didn't award a penalty so was presumably going to book him for diving at the next stoppage in play. Barton dragged the cheat up and the cheat slapped him across the face and was rightly red carded. I'm not too sure why Barton got a yellow card but I presume we'll find out when the referee's report goes in. I also fully expect Song to be retrospectively red carded for his cowardly stamp on Barton which went unpunished. In short, I can't see why Barton is getting any stick and what the hell Wenger is whinging about. If Arsenal appeal that red card I'll show my arse.

should the ref have not blown up and given an indirect free kick to newcastle as soon as gervinho was deemed to have dived? he didnt because newcastle had possession of the ball, and the advantage was played

-- Sat Aug 13, 2011 6:54 pm --

Doesn't matter. You can still create a foul or penalty while playing advantage. He also didn't come back and give Gervinho a yellow card for diving, so according to the rules, he didn't dive.

Therefore, a penalty.

we will never know whether he would have booked gervinho for the dive, as he showed him the red for violent conduct.
yeah then technically speaking it should have been a penalty.
