Perhaps but we've got must win games coming up, it's not really Pep's style to suddenly drop a player in the first team who's yet to fully understand his teammates.

How happy do you think he'd be if we had brought him over to play a dead rubber game only?

He is almost certain to arrive next January anyway… it’ll be the same situation

He's in for a football culture shock.

Football in the Winter, instead of in the Summer in Argentina, and away to Burnley, if they don"'t go down?
Their summer is our winter and they don't play then.

Culture shock? Is this the 80's? No South Americans have ever come to the Premier league and done well have they? Gabriel jesus definitely didn't hit the ground running coming here mid-season, our own club captain didn't go from south America and spend 8 years in a much colder ukraine before coming here and settling immediately.

Pep's literally said July.
He said he would be training with the squad in the summer and they would decide what to do. The very reliable sources in Argentina say there is an agreement/clause that he can stay at River Plate as long as they are in the Libertadores Cup, and the player fancies staying in the country until the World Cup. We’ll see

2022 Copa Libertadores schedule & format

The 2022 Copa Libertadores kicks off with three preliminary qualifying rounds which will determine the final four teams to join the field of 32 that will participate in the group stage (complete qualifying schedule further below).

The group-stage draw takes place on March 23 and the matches get underway on April 5.
  • Qualifying (Round 1): Feb. 8-9 (Leg 1) & Feb. 15-16 (Leg 2)
  • Qualifying (Round 2): Feb. 22-24 (Leg 1) & March 1-3 (Leg 2)
  • Qualifying (Round 3): March 8-10 (Leg 1) & March 15-17 (Leg 2)
  • Group Stage: April 5-7, April 12-14, April 26-28, May 3-5, May 17-19, May 24-26
  • Round of 16: June 28-30 (Leg 1) & July 5-7 (Leg 2)
  • Quarterfinals: Aug. 2-4 (Leg 1) & Aug. 9-11 (Leg 2)
  • Semifinals: Aug. 30-31 (Leg 1) & Sept. 6-8 (Leg 2)
  • Final: Sat, Oct. 29

A total of 16 teams (top two from each group) will qualify from the group stage to the knockout rounds. A draw will determine the knockout matchups and teams will face off in two-leg aggregate-goal series from the Round of 16 through to the semifinals. The final will be a single match played at a neutral venue in the Estadio Monumental of Guayaquil, Ecuador.

This info seems relevant when arguing about the timing of JA's future.

This Spring River is playing in the Argentine domestic cup 'Copa de la Liga Professional.' The group stage ends May 8th for River and the Cup Final will be May 22nd, should they progress in the knockout bracket. The 2022 Argentine Primera Division kicks off June 5th and runs thru Oct 23rd - the Winter WC has altered their usual league sked.

Seems like a natural break for the kid would be to go lie on a beach all June then meet up with City in July for camp. Between the Copa and the Libertadores dat boy's gonna be wore out.

Pulled around 77m with River up 3-0, 3 pens. JA drew the third, leaping into position to get kicked - Mo Salah-style if you will. JA was put thru 1v1 with the keeper once but totally blew it - Sterling-esque miscue. Coulda had 2 nice assists but both shots hit the keeper. Played fine but doubt he's pleased all he got was one pen goal.
