Were you racist in 1984?

I fail to see why someone from Pakistan being called a Paki is offensive yet we openly call people from Scotland Jocks,Irish Paddies, heaven forbid someone calling me a Brit to my face.Maybe it's because it suits certain peoples agenda

How many times have you been called a Brit (or a dirty fucking Brit) whilst walking down the road?
Suggesting there is some sort of parity between Yank or Jock or Brit and Paki, is either very naive or stubbornly uninformed

Did you think BNP an a learning disabilites painting of Preston North End?

When we kids pal i never saw rascism at City. did you?

I remember beinSwwwg away at Leeds away in the late 70s and the cool cats arrived. You could see them through the railings, I was in the ground a scared kid, they just walked down the middle of the road cool as fuck. Nobody went near them.

I think that day more than most made me think we are nor of ant race we are blues

No I never saw racism when I went to City, to be fair I think I can remember things being shouted like ''Get the black bastard'' etc towards a palyer but very rare. I know my old man would never have put up with it if somebody near him shouted anything. He was always up for it at a game, working man's pleasure and a release from a shit week of work and no money I suppose but he's always been right down the line with racism. He was a Catholic and married a Protestant and it caused loads of shit and he told everyone to go fuck themselves he'd marry a black, green, purple woman if he loved them. He always got on with the Italians Sivoris and Grannellis and was mate's in the 60's with a couple of black lads and he always told me how he stood side ny side with them taking and giving it out. He also twatted a City fan for calling Trautmann a German so and so when he joined us but thats another story.

Jesus, you two must have been wearing ear muffs and blinkers in the 1980's.

I stood in the Kippax and heard loads of monkey chants. John Chiedoze of Notts County being one notable, but far from exclusive example.

What about the hissing when we played Spurs?

What about the 'one Salman Rushdie' chants to the Asian ref when Derby County dicked us 6-0 at the Baseball Ground?

Maybe it's only middle class people that notice these things ;-)

I think when me and blue2112 first started going the Cool Cats were there. I doubt you would have heard monkey chants then, even though as all clubs did City had a skinhead following.

In all my time watching City i really dont think racism has ever been a problem, but yes there will have been pockets of racism. The 81 final and the song about Spurs are on there to Belsen being a lowpoint. But when you consider clubs like Everton didnt have a black player until relatively recently, United didnt have a protestant manager until fat ron, I think City can be proud of our inclusivity. Bert playing at a protestant/jewish club after the war, Williams being the first black goalie and being widely admired are feathers in our cap we should look back on with pride.

Yes there is still racism and it is abhorrent, but i hope that people see City a working class club started by a woman to allieviate boredom of poor kids which has grown into a club owned by a muslim Shiek with a multitude of races and relegions playing for us as a standard bearer in the fight against prejudice.

Paddy for an Irish person is as equally racist as other terms discussed on this thread but is far less taboo, IMHO. It's protected by the Race Relations Act etc.

Living in a fairly backward thinking part of Spain....quite a few times, usually in the shops and always by the blinkered, ignorant older folks who cannot see the nose in front of their face.Doesn't bother me in the slightest, just smile and take my business somewhere else.

I grew up in Cheetham Hill and first went to high school in 84 in Blackley. I had never heard of the NF until I got the bus to school and it was spray painted all over the show as soon as the bus hit Riverdale high rise flats.
For a while I thought it meant n*****s f**k off and a few of my mates hated Blackley with a passion for it.

I think there was a thread on here abt this the other week
Sweden,swede. .denmark,Dane. .polish,pole,scotland,scot. .afghanistan,afghan. .etc etc
Someone said it was the only country in the world where you couldn't abbreviate it from Pakistan to Paki. . .
And no one knew why. .
