West Brom (h) post-match thread

If we are playing two people in the pivot role then one of them has to be fast and mobile enough to move upfield to feed the forwards. We are just two slow in transition. Perhaps Pep should play Bernardo there. Rodri is essentially a new Gareth Barry. He can't move the ball fast enough. He would be good if we were defending a 2 goal lead away in Europe but not at home against West Brom.
It's amazing that Mendy is still getting into the team at all. His legs went two years ago. He would not get in any other PL team.
Rodri is nowhere near as good as Gareth Barry

Give over.

It's not the manager's fault that the players are not putting the ball in the net enough.

We have the most possession, best pass completion, most shots at goal and concede fewest shots on goal.

We face massed defences in a way and with a frequency that I've never before seen.

We are not as good as we were but we are not as bad as a lot of people think.

A manager sets the tone. Our tone right now is lethargy and that’s a massive worry considering Pep’s main attraction is high intensity.

Looks like we have a bunch of wannabe managers on this forum and a bunch of folks who want a scapegoat. Mahrez, Mendy, Cancelo, Rodri, Gundo, Sterling are the usual ones, along with Pep, a man that has won us more trophies than anyone. If any of those chances that hit the goalies legs had gone in, the same people would be singing a different tune and Pep would be back to being the messiah. Just be constructive, stop whining and get behind your team. That’s what supporters are supposed to do.......support, or shut up.

He’s playing way too high up the pitch. By the time he gets it its nicked off him, he should drop deeper to receive it so he can see where things need to go
I agree totally, playing high up with his back to the goal is ruining his game. I think Pep is trying to compensate for loss of Merlin, but KdB is no Merlin - nobody is Merlin. Foden the same. It looks almost like Southgate is managing us at the moment.

How have we somehow gone from Tevez Aguero Dzeko Balotelli to playing a number 9 with zero goal threat?

This 100 times over. All 4 of them in their prime as well. With Silva complimenting.

We're left with an ageing, injury prone Aguero and Jesus who isn't as good as any of the 4 you've mentioned.

Woeful in the transfer market.

Any idea when that might happen?

Not having a go at you individually, by the way.
Yup agree. Sometimes results go against you but you can see a pattern of play that will bear fruit. I have no idea what we are trying to do at the moment. Spamming crosses to midgets and sideways passing across the pitch. It’s painful.

Width .
Exactly.
See my post earlier.
Correct pal
I've said it all season struggling to break teams down when we play in front of teams
How many did we score with sane left sterling right getting behind teams
I know sane is a massive miss but surely we have someone who can play wide left and stay out there and not come inside

He did, but he was poor all night, in the second half it was 40 minutes before he did a decent pass, his free kick was good, but well saved, but he had a poor night again.

Disagree, when we got bodies in the box in the last 10 he hit them.
For the first 80 minutes there was no movement or presence in WBA box, he needs targets.

Its his job to identify and sign the right players, coach them and motivate them. So yeah, it kind of his fault

Kev cant drop back to receive it either because we have gundo and rodri there so we’re fucked

What I can't understand is why we keep trying to force it through the middle against a packed defence. Time and time again we had chance to get to the byline and cut the ball back, the only time we did this we scored. Rarely get to see a match these days as I don't have Sky or BT, was really looking forward to it but after 50 plus years of watching City I should have known better.
