West Brom Vs City Post Match Discussion Thread

firstly some credit to west brom and roy hodgson, tactically very good, a team working to a plan with great discipline.

not quite our day, but nothing to worry about, never seemed to get the run of the ball.

and finally another referee who seemed hell bent on giving city nothing, some incredible decisions, the corner in the first half when albion cannoned a shot off their own player, the non booking of the albion player who commited a foul then bounced the ball angrily in front of the ref, the barry handball, and a multitude of small decisions going against us.
Few fans are ever prepared to give any credit to the opposition. WBA were defensive, but they did a good job

Our main let down was not getting crosses in more quickly and more often during the last 20. Too often we played too many extra passes trying to find the stellar ball to break through. We needed to get more players in the box to supplement this. The more crosses you ping in , in rapid succession the more panic you create. This is exactly how the scum do it. Cranking up the intensity then banging in cross after cross. Eventually something breaks for them. Not advocating this style of play generally but when teams park the bus it´s effective imo
Clichy also needs to get to the byline more when he has opportunities. He got quite a few crosses in yesterday but they were easy to defend against as he was hugging the touchline and often the delivery was flat. He could do with cutting in and using his right for a different type of delivery, unless of course it´s a total swinger!
That is the key imo.

We were a bit unlucky not to win, these results wil happen now and again.

The Rags just havve an easier run of games at the mo.

I would like us to sometimes bypass the odd player when passing it around - noticed watching the game that better options were available but the players kept it simple when a quicker passout wide or forward was there for the taking.

Still confident though - if we keep getting 60% possesion we'll win a lot more than we draw or lose

constructive criticism
Silva sometimes needs to shoot instead of passing in the box ( we ain't barca, just shoot.)
Milner's crossing was very poor needs to train on them more

Basically we need to shoot more we were pretty wasteful in the final 3rd

I hope vs sunderland we break them down easy and beat them

Perhaps, but nowhere near as good as we made it look.

There will be games when 5-6 players will play below par - especially if we play them every 3-4 days game after game

Been saying this for years. The standard of the rag's crossing is light years ahead of ours, and it gets them out of jail time and time again. Remember Shrek's goal in injury time in the CC semi a couple of years ago? I class that as a typical rag goal. A whipped flat cross into the perfect place 6 yards out, with one player attacking the front post, one attacking the back post and one attacking the middle. There's no great finesse to this tactic of theirs, but the delivery is always such that it takes away the defending teams natural advantages and by the law of averages one eventually gets flicked into the net. A very effective weapon for thwarting bus parkers and one that we just don't have. We don't get enough men in the danger zone and the crosses are usually fucking tragic anyway

i feel in my heart that mr mancini has retreated back into his defensive shell, we have great players for attacking the other team and feel he must instruct them to do so..

The result against WBA is a irrelevant in itself. 0 points, 1 point, 3 points - makes no difference to who will win the title.

What matters is, what do we do next. If this is a blip and we win our next 2, then fine - we are still on track. It's not rocket science that the team that wins it is the one that has been the most consistent throughtout the whole season. We can afford to drop points here and there and still win it if we stay on track winning most of the games we should win.

The jury is out for me as to whether we yet have the winning mentality to drive through to the end. Next 2 games are a vital test.

The Arsenal game was the latest of many such tests. That was fair after losing our unbeaten run.

It's a bit ridiculous if a draw away from home is built into a moment of great significance
