Pa Bollo was in the RAF so I’ve spent most of my life as the only City supporter in the village. In 1981 I was in junior school in Uxbridge, where the vast majority of kids were Spuds. For reasons too complicated to go in to here, Bollo Snr had a few connections at the Lane so we got tickets to the FA Cup final and the replay, but for the replay we were firmly in the away ends. There are plenty of memories but it felt like the very end of something that night. Turns out I was right.
For some reason the 3-1 at Hull in the 1987-88 reason always sticks in the memory. We’d driven from Whitby (Pa B at Fylingdales), I think it was raining and it felt like there were about 20 people tops at Boothferry. Also, the 2-0 defeat at Carlisle in ‘83 (Pa B at RAF Boulmer). More rain. City’s approach seemed to rest on bankrupting Carlisle by sending all their match balls into the Eden.
