What's the most trouble you've witnessed following City?

Millwall at home in the old North Stand at Maine Rd.

I was right at the back of the stand and in the seat next to Millwall and it was chaos from the moment I took my seat. The Millwall fans swept the stewards aside and occupied the seats normally covered by netting so they were in my face for about 75 mins.

Stuck it out until Terry Cooke scored City's third in the 2nd half. At that point coins and seats started flying and at point-blank range. Almost impossible to move in an all-seater stadium with all the seats filled. Scary. Riot Police ended up battering Millwall

I remember watching them from the Kippax being marched up claremont rd after the match had started. A proper mob!

Next thing they come piling through the the back of the north stand and knew it was only a matter of time till it went off.

Seeing them get absolutly twatted by the old bill that day is one of my best memories of Maine Rd.

That was the day the Milwall mob got off at Stockport and piled into the County fans who were making their way to Edgeley Park, and then jumped back on the trains to Piccadilly for a riot at Maine Road.
Think it were United that them Millwall piled into !

Worst trouble ever seen was at City after the Luton game - thousands hanging around - police cars overturned was bedlam.

Liverpool and everton away got quite scary at times - seen kids with stanley knives

only ever see City and Rags join forces once when City played liverpool at home and Rags were away at stoke - they joined together in manchester as Liverpool fans hadn't arrived in town.

I was at the Millwall game as well, Having been to the Old Den 3 times in the late 80's early 90's and seen little or no trouble, I didn't expect the atmosphere that we met as soon as we came out of South Bermondsey. A load of 40 year old Cockney muppets were hanging around outside this pub on the corner basically threatening anyone who looked like an away fan. This was right in front of the police who when a mate said to them "Aren't you going to do anything about this", he was told "you take your own chances at Millwall" , not really the answer he was after. The game was shit we equalised in the last minute and then Badbuy missed a sitter to win it in injury time but the atmosphere was so poisonous I had lost interest. Monkey chants were directed at Goater all game. After the game we were held for an hour while the locals attacked the police with bricks and bottles. It was a full scale riot and by the time we were let out you couldn't take a step without stepping onto some masonry or glass on the floor. Got to London Bridge station where there were police on every platform monitoring activities.

Having been going away with City since 1977 this which took place in 1998, was the worst I had ever seen and it didn't even involve us.

I was at this game, and I noticed the bad atmosphere even on the tube on the way to the stadium. During the game I became aware that the majority of the Millwall 'fans' weren't actually watching the game but were instead eyeing up the City fans.

After being released from the ground more than an hour after the game I'll never forget standing on the platform at Bermondsey train station with about 1000 City fans when a Millwall gent shouted from below the bank "come on you fuckers, I'll take you all on", much to the amusement of the City fans!

Apart from that, my supporters coach was bombarded with bricks by Chelsea fans after the Full Members Cup final defeat, smashed windows an all.
From what iv been told citys guvnors arranged to meet millwall at london bridge station later that night and gave millwall a good kickin believe its first time theyv ever been done on their own patch hence the violence at maine rd to try to save face but even then they came unstuck.
Its all in one of the city lads books could be guvnors not sure

Funniest bit about that was after 15 minutes of keeping us in, a police officer got a loud-hailer and shouted
"We have a minor problem at the top of the road, please bear with us"

.......................... 15 minutes later the same policeman gets back on the loud-hailer and shouts
" we have a minor disturbance at he top of the road and once we have sorted the issue we can release you"

............................ 15 minutes later Dennis Tueart appears and gets on the loud-hailer and shouts
"Listen Lads, there's a full scale riot at the top of the road, you're better off down here"

I remember us walking back to my mates car and the road was covered in debris, loads of car windows smashed with pub bar stools sticking out, pub windows also smashed, the travellers site near the ground had been attacked and as we headed up one road I shit myself as a "robocop" stepped out of an ally-way. He had the whole riot gear gear on, knee pads, helmet, shield etc ..... and he calmly said "evening lads"

Some good old memories here. Millwall away, Chelsea in full members cup, any match in 70's and 80' with the scousers, leeds or in the North East was interesting and then you always had the little teams who always thought of themselves as big time charlies when City rolled into town i.e. Chesterfield, Oxford, Grimsby, Barnsley etc.

No question. In watching City for 46 years the worst violence was the second leg of the League Cup semi at Anfield in 1981. Fought our way back to the coach to find it on its side with all the windows smashed in. Three people on our coach stabbed. Anyone who was there that night will never forget it. God knows what would have happened had we won!

Agree. I was in Lime Street at 4.30 p.m. Stayed in the cafe to avoid the welcoming committee outside and waited for the 4 mile walk in police escort. Mick Buckley scored for us in a draw.

I was at most of the games discussed here down the years (after the early seventies) and also recall the dark mood around the 1981 cup final, full members cup final in 1985, after Jim Tolmies winner at Chelsea in Div 2 in 1983 and at Millwall on the "London Bridge" day.

Forgot to say that it was the rags Millwall battled with in Stockport before us. One difference though is that they battered the rags (although they will tell you different) and then Millwall were battered by City.

Was that the FA Cup game?
Im not dead sure prestwich it was that long ago but now you mention it im pretty sure it was as city didnt really take biggish mobs away in them days but did in cup games
I asked because I went up there for an FA Cup tie and there was a lot of trouble. The City fans were in the corner of the Gallowgate end but the home fans there behind the goal were too tightly packed in so they had to move them out and put them in the more sparsely populated City section. Fighting broke out and I think the game was suspended while they sorted it out.

There was a line of coppers across the pitch and some loony legged it out of the Leazes, presumably thinking the rest would follow, and launched himself on the coppers. Sadly he was all alone and they gave him a good kicking in the centre circle.

Luckily we had seats so were alright but when we stopped at Catterick on the way back, most of the Blues we saw were covered in blood or had black eyes.
Yep, i was in th gallowgate that day. Dotch and some other wythenshawe lads pulled the newcastle flag down that was fling at the back of the terrace and burnt the fucker! It all went downhill after that. Fighting on the corner of the pitch as te cops allowed the geordies to come into our end.
