What's the "poshest" area around Manchester....

Part of Rusholme, behind the curry mile was a "gated enclave for cotton barons and merchant bankers", superceded by Whalley Range, which gave way to Alderley Edge and the villages around there. More recently the most expensive properties are in the Hale Barns area. Bit of a stretch but Mere has it's millionaires row where mansions get bought and demolished to make room for bigger ones. Woodford has a lot of prestigious piles but Avro closing and Ferranti was a set-back. Didsbury village itself has lots of small terraced houses, the real expensive posh bit is between the station and West Didsbury, very popular with the bigwigs from Granada and the media, at one time. Withington had a good amount of victorian mansions for the top people at MGS and the University and Nell Lane Hospital, but a big council estate and the cost of "down-stairs" skivies saw the area lose it's appeal to the nobs, bit of a student ghetto now thanks to the right-to-buy scandal.

Poynton is pretty posh these days.
Hmmm. I used to fish poynton pool regularly in the 80s. I remember a big posh white house on Anglesey drive opposite the car park. I knocked on the door asking for a plaster as I cut my finger and a posh old woman came to the door as though I was trying to rob her. I was pretty convinced she was posh hearing her plummy voice, but I noticed a fuckin' big iron burn in her dressing gown! Pretentious scruffy cow.

Can someone define posh for me ?

Going back in time houses overlooking parks were normally posh areas, Sycamore Ave Ashton/Stamford park, Queens Rd Oldham/Alexandra park etc
