Yeah New Moston is nice, I have a good mate that lives there and I have stayed there a few times and seemed a chilled out place. I am refering to in and around the Moston lane area. It's pretty hard to justify Moston as a nice area when my brother had so much bad luck with the place.
New Moston, from The Broadway upwards, (going towards Moston lane East down Nuthurst Rd), is a nice area and not just saying that because I live there. God i've had some scrapes right in the middle of it, so it has its nob heads too, (me included once upon a time!). Moston Lane though, well it was always rough as growing up as a kid in the late 80's early 90's, but now its been taken over by the Somalians moving across from Claremont Rd. All the pubs have shut, and i'm talking old school pubs like the Ben Brierley, and the place is all but unrecognisable. People don't appreciate the difference between the two areas but if you took a drive from Asda Harpurhey up along Moston Lane, did a right onto Nuthurts Road and then drove all the way past the Miners estate, over the Broadway junction onto Nuthurst park way, people would see the difference between the two.

The Ben Brierley, bloody hell that takes me back.
I also lived in the flats opposite The Clough Hotel, before moving out to Australia, again a great pub and area.

Must be terrible swapping The Clough for Melbourne? ;-)
The Ben has been shut for a bit now, as has the Museum. The bottom end of 'The Lane' is now all carribean cafe's, hair dressers etc. Not that there's anything wrong with that mind, its just completely different now. The ex's gran is old school and Moston Lane back in her day in the 50's and 60's was where everyone went to do their shopping, have a pint etc. She refuses to go down there now. If you remember Claremont Rd and the streets off it, that is what Moston Lane now resembles.

The Clough Hotel's been burnt down now, and those flats have been completely renovated.

I was back about three years ago and visited my Gran on Grange Park Road and it was sad to see the Clough Hotel gone. It had a wonderful bowling green. I had some lovely days on that.

Sad to see such a nice area go downhill so quickly.

I've just heard that there's been a stabbing at the Ben Brierley. There's nothing on the news as of yet.

As a kid i grew up in Blackley Village (great place),then was "relocated" to Cheetham Hill.In the early 80s lived just off Hollinwood Ave,New Moston?,thought it was a wonderful area after the Hill.
How things change over Time.
Moston is different to New Moston, largely because it has a 'high street'. New Moston in general is quite a quiet place. People who don't know the area will think thats shite, but they are separate areas and completely different to one and other.
