Where was you on the day of the takeover?

Woke up about 11am-midday for the Corluka to Spurs news and thinking Chelsea would sign Robinho but then saw that we'd been took over by 'ADUG' as it flashed across the bottom of the screen. A few minutes later and they said, 'So what do we know about ADUG.' Too be honest, I was glad Thaksin had the sense too offload us but when I found out that they were worth £550,000,000,000 my jaw just hit the floor. I was glued to the screen, convinced it was a mistake. Then there was the whole Berbaflop story that he should be signing for us but he went to the swamp instead (praise the lord). Then apparently we'd made bids for Villa, Gomez and Robinho!!!! Villa wasn't true. Bummer. Gomez wasn't true. Bummer. Oh... Robinho probably isn't true as well. 'Reports are reaching us from Spain that Real Madrid have accepted a last ditch bid by Man City for Robinho...' No, I thought surely not!! They kept repeating the story but with no real updates. Midnight came and went. Berbaflop signed for the rags. (I DONT CARE, WHAT ABOUT ROBINHO!) and then... 'Lets cross over to Eastlands for the latest.' I sat down, hands in prayer. 'I can confirm that Robinho is a Manchester City player'. I couldn't believe my ears! Robinho a Man City player, richest club in the world... and the rest, as they say, is history.

I was In Cuba locked in my hotel during a hurricane. I managed to get on the internet just before the deadline to be met with the headline City sign Robinho for £32 million. I then legged it to the bar to tell a sunderland fan I met there and lets just he didnt believe me.

Hurricain Ike, if i remember, lol I was there to!

Laid on a beach in Salou got the text saying we where minted ! i went do dally, my misses was not happy as apprentally when your on a family holiday abroad your not allowed to talk football on the phone to your mates back home.

In a tiny village in the middle of France with a very poor internet facility. I'd got to read the headlines, then it would go down. As you can imagine, I was tearing my fooking hair out (metaphorically, I'm a slaphead). My nearest place to even get an English language newspaper was about 12 miles away. Now, I haven't been driving that long and never abroad, which is shameful considering my age. So I was really shitting it having to make this journey, but such was my desperation to get some hard facts, I had a good look at the map, a quick shit, and was good for the road.
So, after gripping the wheel for what felt like an hour (20 mins), I made it!
Got to the the newsagents and there it was. It was like a little carousel of dreams. Every English newspaper you could think of was outside on one of those twirly stands. After buying my stash, with some very dodgy attempts at speaking French to the owner, I legged it back to the car like a kid with a bin bag full of sweets. I only allowed myself to scan a couple of headlines. The journey back is a complete blur, a little magic carpet ride through the green fields of France.
My feet still haven't touched the ground.

I was in a fairly important meeting in Milan, with my phone on silent, went for a loo break to find about 70 missed calls and texts all telling me the same thing. I then blagged a dicky tummy as it took me about 25 minutes to find out what was going on.

I was driving back from the airport when the news about Robinho broke.

On the thursday before the takeover, the day of SWP's return and our footballing masterclass over FC Midtjylland there were serious rumours flying about after the match that Thierry Henry would sign for us on deadline day. Naturally, everyone in this tiny village in Denmark was getting quite excited. Even more naturally, when I woke up early on the monday to watch the excitement unfold, there was nothing, except Corluka to Spurs. Typical right? Went to the newsagents to get some supplies for the day and when I got back less than 10 minutes later, richest club in the world. Only City!

The rest of that day was spent in heaven.

Hoar Cross Hall spa in Staffs. Had gone for a lovely, quiet, relaxing break. No bloody chance, my phone hardly stopped with calls and texts the whole of the time I was there!
