Who was at Liverpool league Cup Semi Final 1981

81 was the worst violence I have seen in watching City for 50 years. Two lads on our coach stabbed after the game. The coach was wrecked when we eventually got back to it so we had to go to Lime Street. Running battles all the way. Can't find anything online but I believe there were almost 100 arrests (same as the first night of the Toxteth riots) Unbelievable compared to these days. Yesterday was the quietest trip to Anfield ever.

There was loads of trouble after the first game especially after that decision. I was at the 2nd aged 12 with my dad in the City Seats which were up in their main stand. Very intimidating
Yes, I was in their main stand too, at the end nearest the fucking Kop, great piece of allocation that was by Liverpool. Lost touch with my mate in the crowd on the way out and then was stuck in the middle of a load of dippers and trying to find the buses back to Lime St. Eventually got off the bus near Lime St and next thing there was a pitched battle breaking out, absolute mayhem everywhere. Imagine what it would have been like if we'd won, as we deserved to on the night.

Got searched as we got off the service at Lime Street, the police vans mounted the pavement and drove at you as you loitered at the back of the escort. Scousers were stabbed near me in the ground and just outside as one or two of Manchesters more well known knifers were at the game. about 17-18 of us broke off the back of the escort on the way back and did the side streets back to Lime Street Where there were well over a thousand locals hanging around the square in front of the station. We should have won the match but none of us got cut up. HAPPY DAYS!....

If you thoug ?.ht it is bad going to Liverpool now a days in them days it was somet else .I think for this game any City fan who had been involved in mither from the 60s turned out for this .
Battles before during and after the game .loads of stabbings and dozens arested .loads of City even got nicked at Victoria station before they set if .Liverpool fans were Scum then and nowt changed now

Who - eeerh ! You are awful. How can you call VictimpoolFC ?.
The fans weren't responsible for Hillsborough - the police did the shoving. - and Heysel - 37 Juve fans fell under the wall.

I was in the main stand that night. Back row.
As I recall, McDonald, Gow & Hutchinson were all cup-tied. Under the circumstances remarkable performances by City over both legs. Should have won both games.

I was in the main stand for that game. The Scousers were claiming our following was only so big because we regarded playing them as our cup final. The amusing thing now is they really do believe playing us is the biggest final of the lot.
I was in the main stand too - walked back to our coach afterwards, 3 of us... getting followed and the mob behind us was getting bigger following us. As we turned the corner (Priory Road I think) to where the coaches were parked, we had agreed to just legit - and that's what we did. Halfway to the coach we passed a crowd gathered around a City fan on the floor who had been hit on the head with a hammer.... we carried on running. The cheeky chappy Scousers simply followed us and noted which coach we were on and then when it set off they bricked it as we went past the cemetery.

Correct. Gary Buckley played and skinned Phil Neal alive that night

The stand-out player that night. I got thrown out of the Anfield Road end half way through the 2nd half. Loads of Scousers outside but managed to mingle in then get back in the ground. Eventful walk back to Lime Street.

Was at Nottingham University at the time so got train up from there and arrived early afternoon, then went to house of a school friend who was a student at Liverpool University. IIRC his digs weren't far from Anfield so I think we walked to the match. We watched game from different ends of ground, met up afterwards, returned to his place and I slept there. So we avoided any trouble.

Different story a few years earlier - well for me - when we took the football special over from Manchester for a game on Boxing Day. Possibly the scariest day of my life but I've repeated that story more than once.

Still narked that the ref robbed us of a SF victory; not for the last time.
