Who was the most clueless City manager ever? Apart from Ball

And he achieved what? Playing most of these out of position sorry without a doubt f**king useless, even with the money - which is why he's kept his mouth shut - I wonder what his pay offs have been (the only club he left was one that "failed to meet his aspirations" - YCNMIU).
Kompany wasn't even playing by the end of Hughes' reign. That's what his supporters always miss out when they mentioned he signed him. Yeah, he signed him, as a defensive midfielder, and then gave up on him playing De Jong as defensive midfielder, and played Kolo and Lescott as his preferred central defenders whilst Kompany was warming the bench.

Oh yes, you couldn't hear yourself in the stands for fans screaming for him to play Vinnie at the back.
Nobody, NOBODY really knew how good Vinnie would become there. It might be a no brainer now, but it wasn't then.

Ball, Clarke and Pearce.

For me, it's got to be Pearce.

Clueless and inept would be generous. David fucking James up front. For fucks sakes. And he had a striker on the bench

malcolm allison 2nd stint , ripped a good side to pieces and spent the money on shite , he put our club back 10 years ,

I'm in agreement here. I'd say he put us back 20 years. We were still paying off debts from that era for a loooong time.

Barnes and Owen for bloody Steve Daly. It was a travesty.

and dont forget bobby shinton and michael robinson , some crazy signings from big mal , loved the guy for the '68 team , but genial joe kept a leash on him then , he was left to run riot by shredded wheat head , and your probably right , more like 20 years of pain was the outcome.

Plenty of people knew it better than Hughes without being a manager with several hundred million to spend. He also signed a number of those players, including Kompany, Zaba and SWP and then took us backwards, ending up in the relegation zone at Christmas. Remember that Blackburn game when we went two-nil down and a number of City fans joined the Blackburn fans in singing "you're getting sacked in the morning". He finished that season, despite his signings with five points less than in the previous season... It was a very very poor return.

As for playing him as a defensive midfielder. Here's Kompany's last eight games under Hughes:

Sunderland - Subbed on 52 minutes
Spurs - Unused sub (the game we lost 3-0)
Bolton - Subbed off on 71 minutes
Chelsea - Subbed on at 75 minutes
Arsenal - Subbed on 73 minutes
Hull - Unused sub
Liverpool - Unused sub
Birmingham - Started

231 minutes of football out of a possible 720 minutes. In those eight games we played FOUR top sides in Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs. In those games he played just 32 minutes out a possible 360 minutes. Doesn't that show you exactly what Mark Hughes made of Kompany? Yet you expect us to hail his signing of him... Nope, I'm not going to.

In my time 1st John Benson then Ron Saunders. Some of you don't know you were born
Can't argue with this, I also wouldn't say worst manager because he had little funds but for an international centre half you would have thought Billy McNeill would have had a better organised defence at some point.

George Poyser. Came in originally as Les McDowell's assistant and took over when he was fired after City were relegated in 1963. A reasonable season in the old 2nd division was followed by what was then City's lowest ever league position which got him sacked. It was clear that under Poyser City would have sunk further. Mercer and Allison followed him and turned the club around immediately.

Re: Who was the most clueless City manager ever?

Horton, followed by Pearce
Followed by Hughes
Followed by Benson
Next . . Coppell
Ball
Big Mal 2nd stint
Frizzell
