Why are you a City fan?

I was born in Ladybarn , I honestly only remember City fans .
Auntie Marie ( War widow ) minded bicycle's in Thornton Road , her house backing onto Maine Road Rear car park , the one that was demolished and rebuilt .
Over sixty years ago when the big wooden gates opened at 3/4 time running up the concrete outside steps and looking down to the playing surface , WOW , all the noise , lights and the colour !!
I learnt to ride a motorbike on the rear car park BSA C 15 ( cousin Derek's bike ) 58 years ago approx .
Also the walk from Ladybarn with all the boys joining in , Meredith Street , Rink Street , Green Street , Ladybarn Lane , Mossely Road , Wilmslow Road , Platt Fields , Yee Tree Road , Thornton Road , Second Entry on the right , Maine Road Rear Car Park and then the Kippax .
I have worn a City shirt for over 60 years , have never used a R-d pen or R-d tooth brush , how bad is that , also youngest daughters real name BLUE .

my first idol at Hearts was Arthur Mann
when he was sold to City I started looking for their results and news ( very difficult back then )
started driving down to games getting pished and sleeping in a car outside 'discos' in city centre .. then progressed to posh hotels and euro trips
fecking love it

I'm a blue as I had no choice as both parents were season ticket holders when i was growing up. Strangely both sets of grandparents supported different teams. Dad's side support United and Mum's side supported County.

My Dad and his brother decided to go against the grain and support City and I think my Mum was forced to watch City by my Dad (perhaps that's why football support is a always a question I ask any potential girlfriend) and has been an avid blue for at least 30 years.

I always hated being a City fan when I was in school, awful awful days, but all those years of abuse are starting to be worth it.

My daughter doesn't have a choice in the matter. She is 5 and has probably been to more matches than many United fans. If I do one thing right with her, I will make sure she never decides to ditch City even if she ends up with a United fan when she is older.

Back in the early 90's, I had family in Leeds & Manchester & always looked for City's & Leeds results. I decided I had to choose between the 2 & choose City - for the first few years, that looked like a very bad decision, but sticking with it through the years has been more than worth it.

At that time I had a season ticket for a Scottish team & could only make it to City a couple of times a year. That has now gone full circle & I've now had a season ticket at City for 9/10 years and very rarely go to any Scottish club football. I still follow the Scotland national team though to get my fix of shit football and disappointment.

Went to my first City game in September 1978. Before that i didn't really support anyone. My dad played a lot of football in the 70's so didn't do the games although he was a City fan. Then a guy in the street offered to take me to the game with his son. Ended up going for the rest of that season and got a season ticket the following year.
The guy that took me to the first game with his son also took us to a few away games and Wembley in 1981. He moved back to Wythenshawe sometime in the early/mid 80's. Wish I'd seen him and his son at the Aguero moment.

My dad played when I was a nipper so my uncle who lived on Thornton Road introduced me to heaven. My dad, when he wasn't playing went to watch both City and the shite. By the time I was 6 I wanted a season ticket and that was that. Dad got us season tickets in the Platt Lane and we then graduated to the Kippax.
We travelled separately to Wembley in 99. He went with his workmates, me with my sister and our mates. We met up after and his face was a picture!
My biggest regret is him not seeing these glorious days. He would have loved to have seen this!

Born with blue blood I had no choice like my kids I was/ they are brought up the right way.
