Why is Quinn in our Hall of Fame ??

He said when Carroll came on I hope he can win this...........

WTF he's supposed to be neutral".........

He didn't say that though did he? He simply said he hopes to see Carroll play further forward where he'll have more of an impact instead of dropping deeper. Basically nothing more than an ex pro wishing a fellow striker luck, rather than desperately hoping for him to pop up and score the winner in the 94th minute. You've completely twisted what he said. It's no different to when I've heard commentators in the past say they like to see Yaya Toure pushed further forward where he can have more of an impact on the game.

This place just amazes me at times.

We were poor today, but Quinn was awful in commentary. He slagged off City at every available opportunity and you'd have thought the distinctly average Raheem Sterling and Joe Allen were Messi and Ronaldo. No credit was given to City and Liverpool were made to look like world beaters. I appreciate that we were poor today but Quinn went out to be anti-City.

Quinn's injury time header off mark ward corner was another famous 2-2 , as was the David White game the year later

6'4" striker wanting to see fellow similar striker score is undertandable.

"We were poor today"

"No credit was given to City"

Spot the contradiction.

In the cold light of day, the comments by Niall Quinn were not out of order.

Alot of the comments have been taken out of context.

His comments about "hoping Carroll scored the winner" was in a summarisation he made about Liverpool fans hoping Carroll did well for their club.

When he knocked City today - in all honesty, we deserved to be knocked!!

His unbiased joy of the last game of last season shone through - he was genuinely happy we won the league.

This has counted against him and to balance it, he may not be quite so "pro" City.........and really...so what matters??

This is the same Niall Quinn who so many praised for whistling the tune of "When the Blues go marching in" a few years back at the swamp, when we sang it all through half time and Sky came back after adverts and caught him doing so.

I've no problem with Niall Quinn's comments today....... if Blues are frustrated, then a co-commentator shouldn't be a scapegoat, it's the players who allowed the performance.

It's been pointed out that the HOF reflects a variety of eras. Fair to say that Quinn's era was at a time that coincided with our lowest ebb. He's also a nice approachable guy, which never does any harm when there's a bit of mutual back slapping going on.

I didn't hear his commentary today, but it's disappointing if he was overly negative about us.

I was at the game today and got a text from a mate of mine who was watching it on tv that said “You would think that Niall Quinn had played for Liverpool for the last 20 years the way he is going on about how good Liverpool are”. I haven’t heard the commentary yet, but given the comments on here and the fact that my mate was driven to send a text on the matter, I’m assuming there is some truth in the claims.

That said, there can be no doubt that he was pro City in his QPR commentary and in his commentary on the Derby match a couple of weeks earlier. No big deal either way as far as I’m concerned.

As far as the Hall of Fame is concerned, I couldn’t give a fuck about that either, but Niall Quinn was an decent player in an average/poor team, no more. He certainly was not and will never be one of our ‘greats’. He wouldn’t have got into a decent team and would be nowhere near the bench on any of the good teams we have had since the 50’s (few in number I know). He put a shift in and as far as I am aware he never bad mouthed us when he left. Maybe that qualifies for a position in the Hall of Fame - if so, fair enough.
