Yes indeed, we should be looking for proven pedigree: Mourinho, Ancelotti, Klopp, Rafa the gaffer is worthy of consideration too. If any of these are 'available' this summer then we shouldnt be fannying around.
rafa? you'd really want him here?

Mate, he wouldnt be my first choice, hence me putting those names in that order, but I do think he has something, yes. Let's put it this way, if he doesnt stay at Chelsea, and they win the Europa and get top 4 under him, I can see him getting a job with one of the big European teams

After what he did at QPR? Really?

FWIW, I fully expect Benitez to add another European trophy to his cv this season. But then I'm sure some will dismiss that

Like Roman?

Erm, if he's dismissing him to bring in Mourinho, then that 100% the right decision.
It doesnt mean Benitez is a bad manager - just like it wouldnt mean Mancini is a bad manager if we brought Mourinho in to replace him this summer, as we should be trying to do.
Its an upgrade thats all. Its business.

Rumour has it we've passed on Mourinho leaving the way clear for his return to Chelsea? A major mistake if true imo.

Why? Even some of the cabal reckon Jose backed out of a deal to become manager at the end of the season that Mancini took over. If true - that's why. You don't back out of deals with our owner and get another chance. The honour tradition still counts for a lot in the gulf. Which is why I think the only way Mancini will go is if he resigns. FFS, even Hughes would have been kept on if he had come up with a plan to get us out of the rut we were in.

Tbh gary james cleared this up
In 2009 we rejected him he didnt reject us
And by all accounts we have done the same earlier this year..

Listen fella if Txixi and Soriano have passed on him then who are we to disagree?Pretty certain the guys running City are more than capable of making the right decisions.

It's nearly there but what I'm asking is if it is essential for us to progress from the group stages for our current model?

What I'm saying is that we can get by, and even spend a few with our current progression due to the fact that that we spent early and progressed so fast.

Progressing in the CL is a bonus at this stage but not essential to our sustainability, just as you've mentioned in regard to Arsenal.

I hghly doubr that our owners would see progressing in the CL merely a bonus - i would have thought it essential

I also find it dificult to believe that our owners have not compard our dismal CL showing compared to PSG or Malaga

Mancini should and if reports are true will be given another season at least and i think most City fans including myself would want but another CL performance like last season may be a bridge too far

There is absolutely nothing about what our owners have done for us would indiecat ethey are happy to get by
Agree but a lot of people said the same about Mancini having one more go at CL after last year, also for a few years at Inter...

Next year is surely too important to be taking a punt that he suddenly comes good?

And why should he not come good.. Klopp got outed in the group stages in the last two seasons with a very poor record..

Dortmund stuck with him now hes one game from the final and barring a spanish miracle will get there..

Txiki and Soriano passed on Mourinho when he went for the Barca job so it was 99.9% going to happen.
Mourinho just doesn't fit the plans for City going forward.

Two things to note about Mourinho....
[1] He wants Fergie's job and by coming here, he knows that will end his dream.

[2] Mourinho is a control freak and will want full control of playing style and recruitment. He will not want any interference from a 'Director of Football'. He was at odds with Frank Arnesen at Chelsea, and later Avram Grant, this being the catalyst for Mourinho quitting that club.

There's no way he would entertain the idea of being subservient to two men above him, the same two men he turned him down for the Barca job.

Yet hes prepared to go to an owner more akin to a Roman emporer at the collesium who sticks his thumb down rather than let the gladiator live..

I have my fingers crossed that they know what they're doing, but I reserve the right to say 'I told you so', if we find ourselves trailing behind a Mourinho-inspired Chelsea next season ;).

I dread the idea of Mourinho going to Chelsea. If Mancini can get the better of both him and SAF and win the league next season, I'll be surprised but absolutely delighted and would elevate Mancini in my estimation considerably.
