Manchester City inquire over £30m Wilfried Bony as Manuel Pellegrini bids to boost firepower
City make inquiries but striker could command £30m transfer fee in Januar

Manchester City approach Swansea over £30m Wilfried Bony
January spending: Wilfried Bony could cost City up to £50million in transfer fees and wages

Manchester City have made inquiries about signing striker Wilfried Bony from Swansea City as they look at options to increase their firepower.
However, City face having to spend around £50million in transfer fee and wages if they decide to follow up their interest in Bony after Swansea took the release clause out of the Ivory Coast international’s contract. There was a £19m release clause in Bony’s initial Swansea contract, but that was removed when his new deal, which runs to 2018, was signed in November, allowing the Welsh club to name their price for the 26-year-old.
The move was a masterstroke by Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins, who does not have to fear being backed into a corner by City or any other club over Bony.
With West Bromwich Albion valuing Saido Berahino at more than £20m, Swansea would demand around £30m for Bony in January and the player would expect to be handed a minimum four-year contract worth £5m per year. With such big figures involved, it remains to be seen whether City maintain a strong interest in signing Bony this month – particularly as the player will go to the African Cup of Nations with Ivory Coast.
Txiki Begiristain, City's director of football, was in the Anfield stands to watch Bony play for Swansea against Liverpool on Monday night and the club have made discreet enquiries over his potential availability. Bony is one of a handful of top strikers whom a club the size of City might be able to sign in January and would be eligible to play for the club in the Champions League when the knockout stages start in February.

Although he is happy at the Liberty Stadium, it is believed Bony is keen to eventually test himself at the top level and play Champions League football. Injuries to Sergio Agüero, Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic have forced City to play without a recognised striker for their last three Premier League games.
City manager Manuel Pellegrini has already admitted that he may be forced into the January transfer market to find a new striker and Bony is one of a clutch of players the club are considering.
“I never close the possibility of any business in the transfer window if we can do anything to give us an advantage,” said Pellegrini. “If all the teams can do it, we can do it also.
“We will analyse what we are going to do. There were a lot of decisions why we loaned Álvaro Negredo to Valencia, one of them being that he was injured and couldn't play until the middle of November. That left us only six weeks before the window opened.
“In January we will see if we need to replace him or not. Now we are in that moment we are going to make the best decision for the club.”
Swansea signed Bony for a club record £12m in July 2013 and the player has scored 33 goals in 69 appearances for the Welsh team.

The Times are reporting a fee of £20m, which in my opinion is about right.

He would get 20 goals a season in our team so for £20m it would be a decent deal.

I am not convinced we need Dzeko or Jovetic as well though, one of them would have to go in my opinion.

Jovetic for me. I love him, but he's not dependable.

Jovetic. Bony has a FAR superior goal scoring record throughout their respective careers. In fact it's very impressive. Would be interesting to see what he could achieve here. Added to Jovetic's injury record I think he's the one to be sacrificed in my opinion.

Bony in and Jovetic out if around or cost neutral would be good business. Jovetic is just too injury prone for us.

No way would this be cost neutral, Jovetic has not played much for us in a year and a half, he has a good reputation in Italy but there are few Italian clubs who spend big money on fees let alone the wages he will be on.
