Winning silverware: Does it matter?

In an idle moment a minute ago, I thought about how much I am enjoying watching City right now. I've been going since 1966 and honestly I cannot ever remember a time where I enjoyed it as much as I am doing now. The passing and movement, the skills, the GOALS, the aweome goals. Did I mention the goals? I thought to myself, how gutted would I be if we didn't win the league this year? Whose head would I be calling for? What changes would I want made?

And you know what, I thought, "none". I wouldn't want any big changes, I just want us to carry on as we are. Of course it would be fantastic to get the league title back, and maybe other silverware too. And I will be gutted if we lose out, especially so if it's to "them" in the either of the cups. And I am not saying we are perfect and that we cannot improve - of course we can.

But ultimately, I am enjoying watching us play so much, every game is so exciting, I am just happy to enjoy the ride!

650 million **astics worldwide will say that trophies are everything..

Honestly?
Never ever bothered me. Last time I looked, I had no medals on the sideboard for winning the FA Cup or the League.
It's always brilliant to be associated with a winning team but if we had another 34 years without winning a trophy it would bother me not one tiny bit.
It's an entertainment industry at the end of the day.
Although the oneupmanship to other fans at the minute is epic.

Expectations are with us now, therefore a season trophy-less is classed as an underachievement. Arsenal is quite a unique situation with regard to the tenure that Wenger has had there. I don't think that would be tolerated by many other clubs.

Wenger's situation certainly is unique but I bet it is helped by the fact he knows how to balance the books
Yep, undoubtedly. I think CL qualification has been his lifeline over the years.

yes. Winning trophies entices the best players, the best managers, the best coaching staff to the club. It increases our sponsorship revenue, our TV revenue and our global fanbase enabling us to fund the recruitment of the best players, coaches and youngsters meaning that we can afford to play top quality football and repeat the cycle.

We can play lovely football but if we don't win anything this season or next don't be surprised if the Silva's and Aguero's suddenly find Spain attractive again and want to go and win trophies there, and we'll suddenly start finding them a lot harder to replace than we otherwise would do. It matters to the players, it matters to the management, it should matter to us too.

Kind of agree to an extent. For every trophy win there are hundreds of hours of football to watch, so it's obviously a massive part of it to watch great football. It's about entertainment, not just success. I wouldn't trade our team at the moment for a team that plays like a Tony Pulis team but wins trophies every year, I'd much rather enjoy watching my team than just look up the scores to see if we were "successful" or not tbh. As long as we win some titles every now and again and play fantastic stuff, that's more than enough for me

Of course trophies matter, but for me it is the manner and style you try to achieve it with that is just as important. The teams that are truly remembered are the great attacking sides. One of my favourite teams as a kid was the '82 Brazil side, they got knocked out by Italy and Paolo Rossi but what a fantastic team. The football we play at times takes me back to that Brazil team and why I love football. I want to watch Yaya burst through the defence, Socrates nonchalantly throw a dummy, Silva turn on a sixpence or an Eder chip over the keeper. I don't want to watch Chelsea score and then shut the game down and win 1-0. It may be easier to achieve but for me that's not what this game is about.
