Winning silverware: Does it matter?

If you look back at last season,could you have imagined that we would ever be in a position to become FA Cup Runners Up and PL Runners Up in one season,after years of struggle ?
We were beside ourselves if we are being honest,even as we once again went into that Promised Land of milk and honey,The Champions League.Have we been spoilt, from all those years of hurt and misery,when in two fantastic seasons we managed to win three trophies.
For me yes,we need a bit of silverware and lets be realistic,the Capital One Cup is there for the taking,the PL could be ours if we can continue in this rich vein of form.The FA Cup is always a lottery,but shouldn`t be out of our reach,however for me the CL is a little too much IMO for this year.Yes I know that Chelsea somehow won it a couple of years ago,but they rode their luck continually and that was a very fortuitous year for them.
One trophy and I`ll be happy.Two and I`ll be delighted.Three and I`ll be delirious !! Four !!! Well fuck knows how I`d feel,but I have a feeling that Mrs Palmer and her four daughters would be working overtime for many a long month.
Yes we need trophies,irrespective of our performances.

As an American fan who began watching City at the start of the 11/12 title run, I would have to say that in terms of future success and stability, City must win silverware. Like others on this thread, I agree that in order to attract the world's best players and prospects, we must be winning trophies consistently. With our performance level being incredibly high this year, winning at least the Capitol One Cup is a must. I know that many lifelong City fans will look at me and other new supporters as "plastics" who only watch the team because they win by playing attractive football and have money, but a global brand is what the club want and need in order to prosper. Hopefully someday I'll be able to visit the Etihad and really learn what it means to be a Blue from the older generations of fans. I truly admire the lifelong supporters of the club, and one day my children will be able to say that they grew up as City fans.

yes. Winning trophies entices the best players, the best managers, the best coaching staff to the club. It increases our sponsorship revenue, our TV revenue and our global fanbase enabling us to fund the recruitment of the best players, coaches and youngsters meaning that we can afford to play top quality football and repeat the cycle.

We can play lovely football but if we don't win anything this season or next don't be surprised if the Silva's and Aguero's suddenly find Spain attractive again and want to go and win trophies there, and we'll suddenly start finding them a lot harder to replace than we otherwise would do. It matters to the players, it matters to the management, it should matter to us too.

I'm greedy and want to win stuff in style. I also believe that is the challenge the owners have set.

Winning nothing in the next two seasons would be unacceptable given our resources. But I'd rather win two trophies in the manner we are currently playing than four with a totally functional approach.

An old fashioned concept maybe but isn't spectator sport supposed to be partly about entertaining?

For me I have been brought up on supporting city and being ridiculed by rags virtually every Monday morning in the past.under bobby when we won the 2 trophies and th com shield I thought could it get any better,I knew it would because ot the direction our great owner is taking us but the football this year at times has left me speechless.to win more trophies will be fantastic, yet even if we were churning out shite football eg. Chelsea, at the end of the season all that is written in the history books is your name on the cup.
To win a cup or 2 or 3 the pelligrini way would be unbelievable for us fans but I would also dedicate the wins to our great owner.

I'm sorry but after reading most of the posts I'm confused. How exactly are "playing the attractive, attacking style of football we play" and "winning trophies"mutually exclusive achievements. Is there some unwritten rule that says attractive teams win nowt?? I see all these posts bemoaning our "dodgy" defence or lack of control of games, games we won by 2 or more goals in many cases, and I wonder why the nit picking. We're only just half way thru Mr P's first season in charge, the teams still adapting to his way of playing and yet we are 1pt off the top of the PL , in the Mickey mouse cup final, scored 99 goals and favourites for everything except the CL ( if we beat Barca those odds will drop too). I could see a reason for a debate like this if he'd been here 3 seasons and we'd won sod all but now???? Please, why don't the detractors just sit back, enjoy the football and see where we go from here after all you're City fans aren't you?

Ultimately we are in a competetive sport of which the aim is to win and that culminates in being the primary winners when the prizes are handed out.The great football and the goals are fantastic to watch but if we end up with zilch in the trophy cabinet then it will almost have been in vain.

In their heyday the rags,Liverpool and Arsenal won something almost every year and with our base structure and funding we should now be doing the same.If we can do it with style like we have been doing it will be the icing on the cake.
