World Cup VAR

????

Many things have started with the World Cup before it comes to mainstream.

This part is nothing new.

I don't know what your point is, so I'll leave it there with you...

I'll leave this with you: FIFA don't give a fuck about cricket & THIS is the v.a.r. system you will be getting, not the pie in the sky Cricket version you and I sensibly suggested.

If they had any intention of doing that, they would be doing it now.

FIFA are doing a great job ensuring football is a sporting spectacle and a global success , they were brave enough to bring VAR into this World Cup and the majority find it a success. Carry on moaning though.

Do you just make stuff up as you go along? Collina held a press conference only yesterday, where he's quoted as saying further fine tuning is needed and and it's his and his teams remit to continuously improve the process. Expect mic'd up refs and VAR teams fairly soon similar to rugby TMO to improve transparency... hopefully a referals system will come in too

(AFP) -
FIFA said video assistant referee (VAR) crews conducted checks on 335 incidents during the World Cup group stage, helping achieve a 99.3 percent rate of correct decisions.

"335 incidents were checked by the VAR team. All the goals scored (122) were checked by the VAR, and in addition many other incidents occurring on the field," Pierluigi Collina, the chairman of FIFA's referees committee, said Friday.

With 48 matches in the group stage, the figure averages out to almost seven incidents per game in Russia.

"Within these 335 checks, we had 17 so-called VAR reviews," said Collina. "We had 14 decisions changed by the intervention of the VAR.

"We had 14 on-field reviews, with the referee going to the monitor on the side of the pitch, while there were three decisions taken only by the VAR on direct review."

Collina said the three cases where the VAR directly intervened were for an offside call, an incident that took place inside the area and mistaken identity.
PGMOL said last year that they got 98% of their decisions correct.

VAR not workable in it's current form imo.

Too much potential for VAR deciding games, by what's reviewed and not what's happening on the pitch.

When it comes in it has to be right. Because if we get a poor model of VAR we're stuck with it.

FINE tuning.

They are not going to rehash the whole thing as you seem to believe

How has he fucked himself over if the clock is stopped?

The inference was that he was trying to break up the game with hopeful challenges on throw-ins. He'd therefore probably be throwing away those challenges and not have one left if something happened that he really could use one for. It required a small leap of imagination to join up the dots, I admit. But I was in a rush when I posted it. I would expect City to challenge corners and throw-ins when clearly wrong but not if they're just flying a kite, so to speak.

.?? VAR is reviewing what's going on, on the pitch... it's already improved things dramatically... Germany more than likely went home because of it, how can anyone not be a fan ;)

Thanks, so you admit this isn't the final version and you were talking rubbish last night. Good enough for me

It's going to continuously improve, much like the cricket and rugby models. It's really not difficult to understand, not sure why you're making such hard work of it

I’m a fan. Especially now that ‘Bog Brush’ has extended his stay at the swamp!

No I wasn't talking rubbish, I was saying it's likely that the versions of v.a.r. you keep talking about, will never happen & the final version will be more or less this.

It will be nothing whatsoever like the Cricket model & may involve mics, like the Rugby one, which takes forever to arrive at a decision & still involves dodgy interpretation.

No, and I quote "THIS is the V.A.R. System you will be getting". Complete rubbish, now back tracking I see.

Because it's not being applied consistently.

Until they sort that out it's not worth bringing it in.

I'm not backtracking on anything. This is the v.a.r. system you will be getting.

It will be THIS SYSTEM with a few bits of 'fine tuning', not a diffefent system: THIS SYSTEM.

Non of the arguments you have been making, will be relevant.

THIS SYSTEM with mics on is still THIS SYSTEM.

THIS SYSTEM with a new guideline on handball is still THIS SYSTEM.

If you think THIS SYSTEM will be fine, if you can hear them talk, great, I don't.

I would like a completely different system or non at all.
