And there was The Malt Shovels half way down Councillor Lane too. That was like The Jockey ofrom Shameless!

My cousins the landlady there.

Mental place

30 years ago 'The Malt Shovels' was my first ever legit pint that I ordered myself and was actually served without requiring ID, not surprised though, it was fuckin dead, I expect they were happy just to get a sale.

Loads already mentioned but the worst for me even though they were my locals were 'The Cock 'o' the North', 'The Benchill' and 'The Silver Birch', although they could be 'fun' at times, 'The Mountain Ash' could be a bit ropey at times too.
Anyone notice how many of these fine establishments have gone to the wall? And yes the Bench was a special place when growing up

Most pubs in Stalyvegas. I still go and try and have a good time as i live local but nowhere
near as good as Manc .

Judges bar is ok for those of u who like MILFS or GILFS.

Ashton u lyne centre is shocking now, used to be good in the 80s and 90s until a shooting
and a few stabbings frightened people from going there.

I know 'The Cock' (aka 'The Talisman') and 'The Bench' have gone (seems odd seeing an office block or whatever it is there now), I also remember the morning after the night they played each other at pool or darts or something, and seriously, I don't think there was a window left to smash, a quick peek in and the tables and chair hadn't fared much better, was never going to end well that one lol.

Midland now the Metropolitan near Didsbury.
Grey Parrot in Hulme
Yates`s near Chorlton bus station back in the 80`s
A pub on the Falls Rd in Belfast - more like a shebeen with cans and two types of whiskey
The lively lobster on the racecourse in Sale
O`briens in Stretford .

The Midland was the best pub in Manchester (MVITA). The Metropolitan is shit!!

That reminded me of the Spinners Arms in Hulme, quite a place in the 70/80's They had a parrot which they let fly round the pub, hence it was recalled to memory.

I used to live in Hulme in the 70's , and the Grey Parrot and the Falstaff were the first pubs i frequented even BEFORE i came of age , together with the Red Admiral ... they built the Spinners a bit later .... mind you half the time i only went in to use the condom machines !
Used to go in the Spinners myself at one time, mainly on Saturdays after work, before jumping on the 53 bus to the game. Bit rough, but not as bad as the Iron Duke.

Cant fault you there , The Met is full of plebs , at least there was a good mix of people in the Midland , it had character . Used to have a right laugh in there with locals and students alike , went in last summer with friends and family and watch people poncing around at the bar with credit cards buying two drinks . My brother in law stayed in M/cr after Uni. used to go in there and he reckoned it was miles better than it is now. A dump but great fun .
