Yaya Toure - 2016/17 performances

There's certainly no strawman.
My comparison to Lloris is an indication of why it's dangerous to use highlights without context.

With regards Toure marking or tracking Eriksson in the first phase, he forces him into a crowd of no fewer than three players. So I don't buy that.
Then for Son. Toure is stood in the perfect position to cut a ball out from Eriksson to Son if Eriksson plays that ball. Either by design or fluke he picked out Kane who's lovely touch created the goal. It's not five a side, you don't and can't always mark all men.
When Eriksson is in possession between 3 City players, Kane, Son, Rose and Ali are all wanting the ball. Toure is covering 2 of those, Zabaleta has Ali, and Kane's route to goal is blocked. So for me Toure is in the perfect deep lying position one where 9 out of 10 he intercepts the ball.

As for Fernando or Delph, both have both been out a while, Delph for effectively 2 years. Neither have the intelligence or ball retension skills required for a midfield 3 of Silva, De Bruyne & Toure. A midfield 3 that played Spurs off the park.
That's why an opinion based on highlights is bollocks.

I still view it as a straw man because I never said or implied that Toure is utter shit.

I don't know what you mean by "he forces him into a crowd of no fewer than three players." Who forces who into a crowd? Remember, Kolarov has been dragged out of position by Eriksen being left unmarked.

I don't see Toure standing in a perfect position to cut out a cross from Eriksen to Son. Toure is behind the play jogging back. Kolarov is blocking that cross. This is exactly why watching the man should be prioritised over watching the ball (for Toure at that point). Kolarov should be back with Kane and Otamendi, then that could have released one of the centre backs to go to block Son earlier. Kolarov was prevented from being where he needed to be by Eriksen being allowed to drift unmarked. Still Toure had the opportunity to try to get close to Son but did not try to do so.

I'm aware that mistakes will always be made and all players cannot be marked all of the time. What I'm referring to is that Toure didn't ever try to mark anyone during that sequence.

I'm afraid that (unsurprisingly) I disagree that Toure covers two players. In my view Toure is covering 0 players.

I'm aware that Delph and Fernando are more limited players. That's why I posed the question, rather than expressing an opinion which you seem to be attributing to me but which I do not believe I ever offered.

Enough now.

Cut out the personal jibes and leave the moderation to staff members.

I tried to engage you but it's pointless.

There is no STRAWMAN. the Lloris point is just that, a point. Totally relevant to a discussion where someone is using highlights to judge a performance.

Toure is tracking the Eriksson run, he pushes him with his line of path into an area where Clichy is goal side, Kolarov is level and between Eriksson and easy shot or cross and Sane backing up.
Toure then puts himself between Kane/Otamendi & the edge of the box. Any ball cut back by Eriksson would have been cut out. That would be the percentage ball.
The fact that the square ball is the easier more productive ball, Eriksson opts for the much more difficult and far less likely to score ball.
Why I wonder? Perhaps because Toure is blocking the percentage ball.

Watch your highlights again, I quite clear you've never really kicked a ball. Everything I'm saying is from still breakdowns of the goal.
For the record, it would be idiotic for Toure to turn his back on the play and chase Son, it would leave a huge hole, a hole is positioning was filling.

There certainly would be no straw man if you stopped trying to imply that I had judged Toure's entire performance, rather than what I actually did which was to focus on his costly error for the goal.

I looke yet again. i even have a still image which I would upload if I could see a way to do so. It clearly shows Toure behind the play with the cross to Son only blocked by Kolarov. We could have very different eyes if you see it differently.

Obviously I have no idea how anything I've said proves that I've never kicked a ball. The numerous people who've had to pick the ball out of the net after I've kicked it there would probably counter that claim.

The complete striker I hear them cry..... It's like reading a parody of Jimmy Muir!

What is everyones thoughts on Toure being given a 1 year extension?
I have always liked Yaya. Long before most began to see what he brought. Yet, I think this is a terrible idea. When a player is old and finishes his contract, let him move on. You'll both be better for it.

Hope he heads to China for a big last payday. And we add his replacement. Young, fresh and different.
