He is one of a kind, there is no-one like him,i would be happy for an extra year but i'm not sure he would take that,i would think he would push for 2 but i think that won't get done
I think you're going to be disappointed, yes he's doing well at the moment, and is one of our best players with the ball, but without it he's not what he was.It is not an emotional decision to extend one of your best player's contracts for 12 months. It's just common fucking sense.
It will come down to his wages. If he's prepared to take a significant pay cut I think we would happily offer him a new contract. If he asks for what he's on now (like £200k a week) I think we'll say thanks but no thanks as we'd prefer to use that money on rebuilding the team.

If I could pick the ideal scenario, it would be keep him on as a player, but give him an important secondary role teaching our youngsters (and by that I'm talking the 14-18 year olds) how to retain a football, and when to use the power you have, it would benefit the club hugely in the long run, I very much doubt it will happen though.
I wouldn't even be arsed about the "reduced wage", if Yaya keeps this going until the end of the season then a rolling 1 year deal would be good.I'm not advocating giving him a 5 year contract and start him every week. Someone asked if he should get a 1 year renewal and I said it's a no brainer on a reduced wage.
Keep him in the squad, as a leader, as a player for when we need him, and phase him out over the year.
Yep, I have some sympathy with that, but I think we are looking to the future now, and rightly so, which is why I think you'll be disappointed.Keep him in the squad, as a leader, as a player for when we need him, and phase him out over the year.

No, but its not my decision ;o)Could you honestly say that bringing in 5 starting quality young players but keeping Yaya would be not looking to the future? You need some continuity as well and old heads to guide those youngsters, lend a bit of experience in a tight moment, Someone they can look to who's not phased by a champions league final because he's been there and done that.
