He is one of a kind, there is no-one like him,i would be happy for an extra year but i'm not sure he would take that,i would think he would push for 2 but i think that won't get done

It will come down to his wages. If he's prepared to take a significant pay cut I think we would happily offer him a new contract. If he asks for what he's on now (like £200k a week) I think we'll say thanks but no thanks as we'd prefer to use that money on rebuilding the team.

It is not an emotional decision to extend one of your best player's contracts for 12 months. It's just common fucking sense.
I think you're going to be disappointed, yes he's doing well at the moment, and is one of our best players with the ball, but without it he's not what he was.

If I could pick the ideal scenario, it would be keep him on as a player, but give him an important secondary role teaching our youngsters (and by that I'm talking the 14-18 year olds) how to retain a football, and when to use the power you have, it would benefit the club hugely in the long run, I very much doubt it will happen though.

Don't think anyone disagrees with that.

I'm not advocating giving him a 5 year contract and start him every week. Someone asked if he should get a 1 year renewal and I said it's a no brainer on a reduced wage.

Keep him in the squad, as a leader, as a player for when we need him, and phase him out over the year.

You can see he takes the younger players under his wing, you can see it in the training pictures, you can hear it in the interviews they give and you hear it from people around the club - only today @twosips said just today that an u18's parent told him that Yaya is having a massive influence on the kids when they go up to train with the first team.

How many times is he the one who makes a breakthrough goal, like vs. Palace earlier in the season? And he's just completely dominated the Spurs midfield - he's might not be what he was without the ball but that didn't matter against one of the highest pressing, physical and aggressive midfields in the league.

I wouldn't even be arsed about the "reduced wage", if Yaya keeps this going until the end of the season then a rolling 1 year deal would be good.

Yep, I have some sympathy with that, but I think we are looking to the future now, and rightly so, which is why I think you'll be disappointed.

Looking to the future is not all or nothing. 6 players run out of contract this summer. If we kept Yaya, 5 new young players for the future will come in, to add to the 3 or 4 we bought this summer and the academy kids supposedly coming through.

Could you honestly say that bringing in 5 starting quality young players but keeping Yaya would be not looking to the future? You need some continuity as well and old heads to guide those youngsters, lend a bit of experience in a tight moment, Someone they can look to who's not phased by a champions league final because he's been there and done that.

It may well not happen, but it would be incredibly stupid, and IMO incredibly unlikely, that he would be let go if he accepted a financial deal the club was happy with.

No, but its not my decision ;o)

As I said earlier I'd personally try and keep him at the club for his experience, and make good use of it elsewhere in the club, he's a player youngsters will look to for his experience and ability, and if we could develop the next Yaya with the current one, it would be better than any signing we'd ever make.

I really think we need keep Yaya and Kompany for at least another 2 years we need the experience around the club with all these young players.
