Fair does he come back all guns blazing. I wanted rid I Jan to be honest. Well done Yaya.
As harsh as it's sounds, this is why I wouldn't extend Yaya if I were a director of football.I think in the last few weeks he's really stepped it up.
He was ok when returned but he's really in his stride now.
I'm personally in two minds regards an extension. Whilst he currently deserves one, his age and the age of others is a factor.
If I'm right in thinking Fernandinho's deal is up 2018, if we kept YaYa another year we'd looking two replace two centre mids whilst also looking to either replace Silva or find his successor. That's a big ask.
I guess it will depend on whom we've been working on buying. If we're buying a Rakitic then YaYa should move on. If we're buying potential like a Weigl or an unknown, give the big fella a deal..

I think Gundogan is Yaya's replacement. The only real fear is his injury record. With Silva and Dihno already on the book for another year, what we should be looking to do is have their replacements back them up next season and getting bedded in.
See if they are ready to takeover by the time Silva and Dihno's contracts are up.
Yaya would not have been a starter this year, and it makes little sense to extend him as his age. We need to think strategically about this.
The "we need to think strategically about this" was a reference to the front office. Not you.I'm thinking quite strategically thank you. It's not strategic to replace someone based on age alone. As I said, if we're buying a ready made direct or indirect replacement then fair enough. Wave him off with great memories.
If we're buying young potential direct or indirect replacements (which I think we will) then a guy who's in very good form, tactically aware and familiar to the league will be useful to have around. For everyone concerned
If his form dips before the summer then the question doesn't need asking.
But whilst he's a true asset to the team he should be considered especially if we're not bettering him.
As has been said, Pep didn't seem to fancy Gundogan in that role despite how obvious it was that it's our best system. So I don't think Pep sees him a replacement.
As I said, if we add established centre mids then move him on, if we add exciting potential midfield versions of Sane & Jesus then I'd keep him around.
Afterall it's taken Sane 6 months to hit his straps, Stones has struggled and he's used to the PL.
If we lose YaYa and replace with potential we could be starting next season with only Fernandinho fit for purpose again. Gundogan most likely be up to speed till November time and any new players if young will still be getting up to speed.
That's not emotional it is strategical. And for me YaYa's contract should be decided on a football decission alone and with summer recruitment very much n mind.
