Way too many emotional reactions here. This is about Yaya wanting more money and in light of Rooney's wages you can to some extent understand why, after the season he has had, he feels he is worth more money. However, the way his agent has gone about things is amateurish at best.

The toy out of the pram brigade need to think very carefully about this. The days of us overspending our rivals are gone, the one thing we had in our favour going for the big players was money, that advantage has been removed by FFP.

What this squad needs is evolution, not revolution, arguments that you replace 20 goals in the premier league and 'heavy' goals at that with someone like Fabregas makes me shiver, dismantling a premiership winning team because are sentiments towards our club have been insulted. You risk dismantling a great team every time we have something like this occur.

This is business. IMO he is too good to leave and we have him tied into a further 3 years. Unless we get silly money, and I mean 50 million plus, he goes nowhere. We find a compromise, we take the Liverpool approach with Suarez. Can you imagine if they had sold him for 40million what would there season have looked like?

Loyalty works both ways. I am often disgusted by the vitriol thrown at our players after a couple of poor performances. Loyalty works both ways and at times we as fans have shown none to certain players yet we expect complete loyalty in return.

What makes us bigger and better than the rags or Liverpool who have face similar circumstances and found a way to keep the player. Yaya is too big a player to let go, we have to find a resolution.

It's worse than a couple of poor performances. He's stuck two fingers up at the owners and the fans so we are entitled to jump on him.

He should be required to explain himself BEFORE the World Cup. If he shows genuine regret then OK; draw a line under the affair and put a PR gloss on it. If he refuses, or shows no contrition, there is a strong business case to put him on the market. This is based on three factors:

1. Last season was freakishly productive ( a career stand-out) and is unlikely to be repeated.
2. Next year he'll be 32 and worth a fraction of his current value.
3. He'll create a bad odour if he hangs around in a demotivated state of mind.

Under no circumstances should twattish behaviour earn an improved contract. That may be acceptable to the rags but we have higher standards.

Re: Yaya Toure

He's unlike to BE a club legend now. He had all the potential to become one, but these actions are not those of anybody I'd ever consider a City legend.
That honour really should only be bestowed on few, and only ever those that put City at the top of their football priorities.

Great player. Helped us win lots. But legend? not now.

Agreed 100%.

Time for the barca boys to get tough with him. Pronto.

Re: Yaya Toure

Maybe we should recruit somebody with the ability to confuse the opposition.

Re: Yaya Toure

The upset isn't about him wanting more money (even though that's not very tactful at a time when FFP is affecting us), it's about the method chosen to obtain more money.

His methods create bad publicity for the club, and moreover, make himself look daft.
Acting like a moron affects morale at the club, not only for players, but for staff too. It affects fans who've offered pretty impressive support for him (even though there's the odd criticism of him sometimes), and it affects how sponsors view the club too. Sponsors want to invest in top class businesses who keep their noses clean, and will pay a premium for it. They'll still sponsor City, but won't pay a premium for a club that ends up in the papers for the wrong reasons.

That's what most people are annoyed with.

the annoying thing here is that if yaya does leave this summer, this is what's going to be remembered and not the fact that he's an actual club legend...

a la Tevez, just as important and imho easily on a par.

Re: Yaya Toure

Its really simple for me.

He has no loyalty to us, clearly evidenced by this situation and when he celebrates his goals. He clearly has some internal demons with regard to how the football community see's him and Africans in general, and he might have a point to be fair. This attitude probably goes some way to explaining why his only goal is to earn as much money as possible during his career. Unfortunately football fans cant accept this type of attitude and to be fair he has handled it pretty badly anyway.
However, it would seem he now has to go otherwise we would be left with a sulker.

The whole sorry episode leaves me sad and ambivalent towards him which is particularly galling as we have just had our best ever season, and his selfishness has taken a little gloss off it.

And that is the crux of it; he doesn't give a pinch for our wonderful club and i don't give a pinch for his moanings and his nonsense.

However, I want the monster in our midfield but the monster has turned into a little baby.

On balance, best he goes.
