Yaya is NOT a world class defensive mid! No where near it.

Just give Garcia some time and he'll be superior to any other player we have in that position, and will also show why he is a better player than De Jong was for us.

Speaking of dear Nigel, he's not exactly making Milan fans scream in excitement, but we know don't we, that he is a great defensive mid and will soon come good for them right?

Garcia will be our number one defensive mid for years to come. Yaya should only play there if Garcia, Barry, Milner and Rodwell are unavailable. I'd rather play Zabaleta in a defensive mid position than misuse Yaya there.

Yaya is though, a fantastic box to box midfielder, with offensive qualities we have in no other player, so I only see him playing as an attacking centre mid or as a offensive minded central defender next to Barry for example.

It amazes me that people can't see this.

We can get away with Yaya in a more defensive role if the whole team are organised to cover that area, or if the team we are playing against isn't very good.

If he plays in a role where he has set defensive jobs to do, against a top side, he sometimes fails to do the job asked of him, & against a top side, that means trouble. If it doesn't cost us a goal directly, it can cost us because another playr leaves his man in order to cover the area Yaya has left.

People seem to take these kind of observations as a personal attack on Yaya as a player. There is no current player in the world who is brilliant at every aspect of midfield play & there rarely have been in history, that includes Yaya.

It doesn't mean he's not brilliant as a player, he's just not pefect at everything in in every way. he has weaknesses, just as Silva & even Messi do.

ALWAYS had at least 3 and many times 4 dortmund players swarming him as soon as he got the ball, never had time to settle. garcia going off and barry not available meant we had no outlet for him to pass to and create his own space

nasri should play this deeper role as he is excellent in possession and has a good passing vision

barry/garcia yaya nasri
in mid 3 with yaya furthest forward

Yes exactly! Everyone just thinks poor defense means we need more defensive midfielder, but that's not it. A deep lying playmaker, who is good on the ball and can change the tempo of the game is what we have been lacking. Nasri is exactly that kind of player.

He would need to work on his defensive grit, but we wouldn't be giving the ball away and bad areas all the time. It is so frustrating to watch 2 defensive midfielders fail to move the ball from defense to attack.

Barry/Garcia being extra responsible with Nasri just in front to transition to attack, and Yaya ahead with some defensive responsibility, but still the freedom to go forward.

Watch this and tell me he's average.

3 years ago? Different league? Different team?

Using him in a deeper role is wasting one of the best players in the world. Abit like playing messi at centre back

Its not is it, it' called having the best of both worlds. He was rarely used as an attacking midfielder at Barcelona, here we get to see both sides of his game quite a lot. He is an outstanding player who has the ability to change his game to suit our needs, let's just be thankful he's with us.

I think Yaya is currentley a victim of our system. When we play a system which expects our attacking width to come from our fullbacks, we then rely heavily on our central midfielders to cover the spaces left behind, if our attack breaks down. Because of our slow and patient approach to attack, we are finding the final third of the pitch very congested. We then struggle to find the 'killer' pass. If our passage of play is broken down from this position, we are then vulnerable to the counter-attack. Once the opposition get behind our fullbacks from deep lying positions our central midfield gets pulled apart, which then, (if the counter attack continues) leaves our centre halves overly exposed. Yaya, Garcia, Rodwell, Kompany, Nastasic, Kolo have received a lot of criticism so far this season. Although some mistakes have been made by individuals, the blame seems to be landing mainly on the players being exposed by our style of play. Fans of Yaya have to accept the criticism of Yaya, just like other fan favourites are criticised. Yaya's weaknesses are exposed in these cicumstances, but I can't think of a player who wouldn't.

1) Yaya Toure picked up a bad knock mid way through the Dortmund game and played on

2) He can play defensive and attacking roles in midfield and does both. When you have Silva, and Nasri is it any surprise we often use him in a defensive role.

3) You will never get the work rate our of him that Dortmund players put in - he is huge and it's just impossible for a man his size to close down like they did. Just acknowledge his strengths and be grateful he plays for City.

How did we ever survive Div 2 with fans like these?
