Yemen School Bus Attack

A terrible crime, but depressingly not one bit surprising. The absolute minimum that should be demanded from this government is an immediate halt to all arms deals, including training and military intelligence.

Nothing will happen because the media have failed repeatedly to hold successive governments to account on foreign policy. They’d much rather beat the drums of war.

This is the country that crucified someone just the other day. And we invite MBS and his gang of criminals to London, profiteering from pure evil. Shameless.

I'm old enough to remember Iran as Persia when it was a resourceful country attracting wealth and the Shah did lead a hedonistic, western lifestyle. After the overthrow the country was hardcore Islamic, detractors harshly dealt with and then came the damaging war with Iraq. From what I have seen any attempt at modernising the leadership is not transparent and whatever happens the Religious leadership retains the balance of power. Until they withdraw sponsored terrorism they will remain military outcasts with a dangerous agenda, to ignore them would be naive and the consequences don't bear thinking about .

The UK supported Saddam Hussein in his war against Iran.

The previous poster was having a pop at the papers reporting on Corbyn attending a memorial for the men responsible for the attack at the Munich olympics. Two wrongs do not make a right. Corbyn is wrong and of course it is incredibly sad anyone has died in Yemen. But Teressa may hasn’t dropped the bomb.

Just sold it to the Saudis?

that must be the 1000th time you have put me on ignore and oh, btw, best of luck in doing so.

Yet here you are using this thread to bemoan a media campaign against Jezza as well as score points.

Whataboutery len?

BTW i've made points about this thread not being made a political point scoring fest and that the focus should be on the horrific killings of innocent children so spare me the fucking lecture as you tried above by selectively quoting to make me look a ****.

You far left fucking nutters are a real piece of work aren't you?

These posts really do stretch the role of a "moderator", don't they? Immoderator, maybe.

Oh bless.

Had I sanctioned these posts rather than just reply you might just of had a point.

As it is you have just come across as a bit silly.

The kids were buried today.

All those up in arms over the videos in Syria may want to watch the video in this link amd see if you can get up in arms about it when our government have profiteered on selling the Saudi's the weapons to commit murder.

Fuck the terrorist supporting nation saying it was a legitimate target

The UK is the largest of the European countries selling arms to Saudi, it's easy to check those outside Europe
doing so. Before we accede to this constant demand to ban arms sales, European countries that sell arms to Saudi include...
Belgium, Spain, Czech Republic, Sweden, Italy, Germany, France, Slovakia.
So, unless they all agree, plus there is agreement from all the other countries worldwide, a unilateral stance simply shifts
the business to the next competitor, the response no doubt, will be at least we've taken a stand, at a massive hit to our economy,
and if that's acceptable, we must then completely halt arms sales worldwide. Whilst thousands of jobs will certainly be lost,
no hit will be felt by the Saudis,or any other state, and everything will carry on as now, with the above headlines just as prevalent, and nobody
in the world standing back and applauding the UK's stance.
A moral dilemma for sure.
Would you sanction arms sales to the Houthis?, screaming 'Death to the USA, death Israel' seems to be a stock response.

The attack on innocents cannot ever be condoned but as you say it is pointless because you can't tell another country what to do. Defence is indeed why they have bought the equipment they are using and on the grounds of capability they will just get it from elsewhere.

For those using the NHS or any public service, at least some % of that service will be paid for by arms sales. If we are prepared to take the hit for morality then well we need to be far more prepared for the consequences it would have because it would be massive.

Stopping those sales tomorrow would instantly destroy the lives of thousands, close down communities and send hundreds of businesses to the wall. I am sure if you ask the vast majority of those people, they will be happy to remain ignorant.

Why don't we just sell weapons to ISIS and North Korea? They're getting them anyway, so we might as well profit from them. Is this really the argument being made? The UK has a moral and ethical duty to end it's supply of weapons to Saudi Arabia. The economic costs that may be involved are irrelevant when the purchaser of those weapons is a monstrous genocidal child-murdering psychopath. If those other states want to keep supplying weapons then it will be on their conscience and they will come under heavy criticism for it.
