Zabaleta confirms he will stay at City

In what way after his first 6 months and now and again was he not crap for us

he and Johnson were the 2 brightest sparks in that Sven season, and then he was one of our best players the following season as and when Hughes could get over his ego and bother using him, especially in the UEFA Cup. Let go due to politics not because of his performances or talent.

Regardless of any fan sentiment, Zab has the best attitude than any player in our squad. He is a true warrior who gives everything on the pitch. I just hope Pep gets the chance, first hand, to see what an influence he has and what he can do. I understand we need to make room for new signings, and other clubs would be keen to sign him. Unlike some of the other players who may be leaving our squad.
This is a difficult one to be honest. As stated often here he is a true City legend a real warrior and it would be sad to see him go. But there are a number of factors that have to be taken into consideration. Firstly, many people point to a perceived lack of pace in his game this season leading some to conclude that his legs are gone. Not sure if I can fully subscribe to that view. At his age he should have at least 3 years left in those legs and it is just as likely that burn out due to all the football he has played over the last 2/3 seasons together with injury problems this year have resulted in fitness issues. Secondly, a case could be made that for him to extent his City career he needs to step down from international football. This I would agree with but I am not sure if Zab thinks the same way. Assuming he remains in the Copa squad this summer and performs well he may believe he has one more world cup in him. I don't think he could combine the rigors of the Premier together with an international campaign with Argentina. To this end a move to Italy would appear to be ideal and so appears likely. I am just guessing but if he is going to get into a pep team at City in the future he is going to have to prove his fitness and retire from international football which he may not be prepared to do.
Thirdly, if he was to stay there may be some kind of a utility role for him in a Pep 11. He has played in midfield before and could still be effective as part of a midfield 3 but then again that may be just wishful thinking. If he does leave in the next couple of months I along with most City fans will wish him all the best.

Don't get all these people saying give him a coaching role. Do we even know if he wants to coach? Or if he'd be good at it? We need to employ the very best people in each role, not just give them to people we like. If Zab wants to be a coach (unless I've missed it, we don't know this to be the case), then he should prove himself somewhere first. Or do a Vieira and start with the kids. The idea that Zab can just suddenly start coaching the first team is holistic bollocks.

Zabaleta actually was a decent player to play into that halfspace role, which was often executed by Lahm (not to mention Alaba) in Pep's Bayern, so it's a bit of a shame really that he's getting old and having a shit season.

I still think that RB is hardly a priority, and Sagna, Zabaleta and Denayer should be enough for at least a year, even if Pep's demands from a fullback are probably somewhere else contrary to other coaches. We need something to do on the LB front though, but maybe Clichy and Angelino can cover that as well.

There is no room for misty-eyed sentimentality if you want to dine at the top table. The continued strength of the first team has to come first. We cannot carry players who are living off past glories, whoever they are and whatever their legendary status.

Absolutely he belongs in the City hall of fame, alongside Yaya, who is another whose form has dropped off significantly. It remains to be seen for the other "class of 2012" legends, David and Vinny, but for the last couple of seasons the ominous signs have been showing, particularly with persistent niggling injuries and recovery times. I'm hoping David has another couple of years in him, and he can clear this ankle issue, but I am concerned for big Vin.

There are the odd few players who are able to play at a very high level into their mid to late thirties, like that freak Griggs, but for most nature is cruel, speed and reaction times drop off rapidly after thirty or so, sadly it appears Zabba is one of them.

good post that
