Zabaleta confirms he will stay at City

Personally I'd rather keep Zaba than Sagna, even though Sagna was a ton better this past season he's two years older, not a club legend and should either way be a bench option at most. We need a new rightback either way and I'd be more happy to see Zaba being the bench/rotation option than Sagna, as far as I've heard he's also really important in integrating new players into the team so he's obviously also very important off the pitch which could be useful with so many changes happening this summer.

There's no down side to keeping him. If last season's performance was down to injury, then he can potentially get back to his old self, which was the best RB in the league. If not, he's still a more than capable backup. And if he's finished, we've got Denayer who can play RB anyway. I don't want to see a club legend leave on the basis of one injury-plagued season.

My favourite City player of all time. Really hope this is true and that he's gonna stay, even if it is for just one more season. He's given so much and grown so much with our club. When the time is right for him to go, he deserves a proper send off from the fans and an opportunity to say goodbye, and that won't happen if he departs this summer.

we had that opportunity to say goodbye at the end of last season (him possibly leaving was hardly an unknown) and everybody fucked off

Lining someone on here's pockets or is for Charity?

Agreed, he was utter shit. Took a decent penalty mind you, not a great deal else to him though. As far as Zab is concerned, I think it is too early to write him off given his injury problems this season. Personally, I wouldn't be in a rush to get rid of him if he's happy to play a part rather than being first name on the team sheet every week. There is talk of Pep replacing Joe (fucking bonkers if so IMO), Zab going, Kompany probably out a lot, Yaya probably going (rightly IMO). We are in danger of losing too many big characters from the team/matchday dressing room all in one go, players who have dragged us through games when necessary in the past. We have to be careful IMO, evolution not revolution and all that.

They didn't do much of that dragging last year though did they.

Where has this idea that Zabaleta can play DM come from? He's nowhere near good enough on the ball, and the previous occasions he played there he was overwhelmed by weaker opposition.

Possibly because the last time he played there, he almost won us the game v the rags with 10 men & probably nobody has played a better game in that position since.

How he could play a game like that then not even get 20 mins in that position under Pellegrini, when we have been shit in midfield, baffles me.

I wonder if the reason for his downturn in form is due to carrying an injury rather than being burned out, as we thought.

If Pep's happy with him. I'm delighted.
