Vincent Kompany - 2016/17 performances

My personal feelings, not that they're worth much but I can have an opinion, are that Guardiola either finds it difficult to have big personalities in the dressing room or Vinnie has upset him by talking out of turn or Guardiola's ego won't stand VK being so popular with the fans.

It is getting far, far, far beyond a joke now that VK has, allegedly, been fit now for weeks and yet gets no further than the bench.
Or maybe he is just not considered as starter by Pep, because he thinks Otamendi/Stones/Kolarov amout to a better solution? I mean Kompany must have trained half the hours with the team as them three did, and we all know how quite obsessed he's with instilling his ideas to players on the training pitch.

Nah,it cant be that simple pal,not when there's an opportunity to have a snide dig at the 'messiah' and his 'ego'.

He was fit for Monaco away and maybe even before that.

I think Pep should give him some games regardless of his plans for him. Really odd he's not playing, would be great next to Stones.

Say what you like about Pep or any other manager for that matter. Jobs are dependent on results,, more so at the highest level. Managers are not stupid enough to let ego get in the way of results because if that happened they would soon be out of a job and unlikely to be offered any other prime position. It could be argued that Maureen defied this logic but he was a supporters choice rather than a boardroom one and if next season is of little improvement on the current one, he will be history. Pep knows the same fate could happen to him and for this reason he will be picking teams to attain results rather than getting stuck with silly mind games which make absolutely no sense at all.

Looking at the Chelsea pre match and most posters don't even pick him, wonder why you want Pep to pick him. He sees them in training everyday, maybe the other guys are still ahead of him due to his injuries?
Our best defender mind

I just can't see what there is to lose by giving him a go. He's still arguably the best defender at the club (couldn't be any worse than Otamendi was on Sunday) and if he breaks down again then what difference does it make? He's going to have to play again at some point.

On the bench against Arsenal, must still be in Guardiola's plans then. Chelsea away is a big ask after such a long time out. Perhaps Hull at home is a better game to make your return.

If he is considered fit, throw him in on Wednesday. He has absolutely mauled Costa in the past, and we could do with that physicality.

Just a thought. But if he is fit in May, he has a retail value greater than if he isn't

My thoughts too.

I'm sorry but I wouldn't even have him taking a place on the bench. Nurse him through to summer and then get rid.

I know some won't be happy with me saying this but persisting with Vinnie has fucked us over for 3 seasons now. We badly need to replace him.

This. There is no room for sentiment this summer or going forward.

If a player is deemed surplus to requirements then we have to get rid regardless and build a squad with the right attributes and especially balance.

I'd let Vinny do what he wants - he doesn't owe us anything. If he wanted to try and play this season i'd let him, if he was ok it would be a massive boost for him. Imagine if he was fit enough to play in the FA cup games and we managed to get to the final with him having played 5 or 6 full games to get fit, imagine if we won it with him as captain. I'd much rather leave the door open to that than f him off like some failed squad player for a couple of £mil. The guy is a legend and we should treat him as such.

Agreed,we should treat him right,he still has a while on his contract i think as well

Was pretty good, unluckily he cost us the game with two deflections, but as far as defending goes he wasn't bad.

I thought he looked much less nervous and less like an accident waiting to happen tonight than on previous returns. This season may be over as far as the league goes, but if Kompany could play the majority of the next 9 games and show he's worth a squad place then it could be huge.

Great to have the big guy back and he did well considering time out and the opposition. Him and Stones have the potential to forge a solid partnership if VK can stay fit.

Great to see him back. Hopefully he'll keep his place next to Stones in the side for the remaining games.

Hard game to judge him on, especially as he had the luxury of two defensive midfielders in front of him, but he came through it okay. Still looks as if he's having to think about positioning himself when we've got the ball (static and man marking a few times in the first half when we were in possession), but fair play to him for going the distance .

Only real positive for me tonight was Vinny reminding me of what a good centre back looks like. His passing was no worse than Stones and his actual defending was miles ahead of anything I've seen from our £50m man. I'd rather watch Vinny out there in a wheelchair, playing at the back on his own as opposed to the shite I've had to watch all season.
