It's the c**tish, hipster way of describing a midfielder who sits in front of the back four and can dictate play.

It's a position that's existed for about 30 years, but FIFA players like to use it to think they're smart and progressive.

This guy knows.

You'll never hear the word "regista" said at the match. it's a term for all the sky sports watching FIFA players out there.

Anti intellectualism is becoming more popular these days than using terms that accurately describe the positions of players. And Dani Alves is a Lateral direito ;)

I find the word pivot far more intelligible than someone who says something like 'He's more of a six than an eight'.
Maybe that's just me but at least the term pivot is somewhat descriptive.

Or it's just a case of it's quicker to write 'pivot' than it is 'deep lying playmaker', mayhaps?

Which is funny because I don't think the word 'regista' appears on any version of FIFA. As for SkySports? I have no idea but I thought there were a few from the BBC who are now on the regista?

As a side note, I think if you're basing your language on what is deemed acceptable by the experts who attend matches then you'll end up with a very archaic and limited vocabulary.

Holding midfielder with Pep's brain
I.E a fitter/younger Yaya, someone who turns defence into an attack?

Not as attacking as Yaya used to be.

Xabi Alonso is a perfect example. Hopefully mentioning a player with an X in his name isn't too fancy and doesn't get me written off as one of those ****y hipsters in the eyes of some on here.

That would depend on how you pronounce the X.

The lateral direito's from Bahia.
