"If we had only turned those home draws into wins". How many times did you hear that from Utd fans last season? Well there was a reason you couldn't score goals last season, you had no creative players in your team and your manager does not have an attacking instinct in his body.
City were the inverse of Utd. We had forwards and attacking midfielders like Silva, and De Bruyne but no defence.
So with a week to go before the season, where are we?
Utd have a net spend of £150m and have reinforced the spine of their team with a central defender, defensive midfielder (yes I know it is hard to believe) and Lukaku. Lukaku will score goals, but he will struggle to open up packed defences. Utd are the same animal they were last season. They are going to be hard to beat, but they have emphatically not added to their attacking options.
City have a similar net spend of £140m but City have bought a keeper, 3 full backs, and one of the best players we saw at the Etihad last season in Bernado Silva. In one window we have more or less addressed the major weakness in our squad. Central defence is an achilles heel perhaps but Stones WILL grow to fill that. City have been transformed. The gap between City and Utd has grown substantially. This season I expect City to compete for all the titles whilst Utd will remain a Cup side who are difficult to beat. I think Jose will be out of a job in 12 months time.
