Like Alves was the wrong age in terms of profiling.
Alves was a position we needed for this season. We wanted him to come, he didn't. We moved on and signed Danilo.
Sanchez is a position we need this season. If he doesn't come we may move on and sign someone else thereby obviating the need for Sanchez. We then may or may not sign Sanchez next season.
So to answer your question, just because we were prepared to sign Alves this season doesn't necessarily mean that we will be prepared to sign Sanchez next season.

Agreed we might not need or want Sanchez next season but i think if he is on a free next season most of the top clubs in Europe will want him. So i can't understand how people can say now that we definitely won't want him next season.

If we sign someone else for his position now then would we sign him just for the hell of it next season just because there are other clubs interested in him.
We will usually only sign players because we need them not to stop other clubs signing them.

I never said we would sign to stop other clubs from signing him i said we can't rule out the possibility that we will want him next season

Honestly I still think this will happen. Given Lemar was strongly tipped as a (roundabout) replacement for Sanchez at Arsenal, I can see how everything that's happened and is happening could be boiled down to a mexican stand-off between City, Arsenal and Monaco.

It's good news in a way. But I just think Wenger is so stubborn that there's no way a deal can happen this summer. Hope I'm wrong.

Wenger will still be hoping he will go to PSG, and will cling to that hope until the final days of the window. Unless PSG sign Mbappe and clearly are no longer interested in Sanchez. Once transfer deadline day starts to loom, Arsenal have to face up to the choice of selling him for £50m+ or letting him go on a free next year. Which will focus their minds. The availability or not of a suitable replacement would also be a factor.

For me its the simple fact that Arsenal will have 50m more to replace him than they would if they hold onto him next season and he goes on a free. It is what the phrase, cutting your nose off to spite your face was created for.

We get ridiculed for spending 50m on full backs Arsenal are essentially spending 50m for a loan player.

Obviously we have no clue what the club and Pep think about not signing Alexis next year on a free, but if the age is such a concern why not sign him on a free and give him a three year deal, as opposed to a four-year deal that we would probably give him assuming he comes this summer? I don't buy the whole "it's now or never." If it was his choice I think he'd be here. Its just that Wenger wants to save face for the fans (at least up to this point).

He would not be free. He would want a hefty signing on fee

Why has Sanchez not come out & said I stay??

It's dead easy to put him on the stage with Wenger & put the story to bed!!

He wants out IMO & it will ride all the way to deadline day.

Arsenal fans enjoy your manager dictating on & off the pitch ;)
