Riyad Mahrez

By when do we have to strike a deal with Leicester to be able to get done with the paperwork in time?
11pm. These days you can hand in a tiny little data sheet basically saying a transfer is agreed, the player, the clubs and the fee, and that's enough to get it done before the deadline, the full paperwork, can come later

So looks like we went for alexis first, didnt get him.so turned our attention to laporte fred, got laporte didnt get fred so now.we go for mahrez. We cant be this naive everytime by not giving selling club enough time to get a replacement

This is how I see it....once we walked away from the Sanchez deal, we should have made a stronger push for Mahrez earlier in the transfer window. We have clearly wanted another attacker even before the Sane injury, so waiting until the last day shows poor planning. If rumours are correct, it would seem we made a bid earlier in the month and didnt go back in after that first bid was turned down...If this deal doesnt happen, it might come down to the fact we didnt leave ourselves/the selling club enough time.
My guess is that ideally Pep would like to add wordclass forward/false 9 as Aguero replacement and cheaper 3rd winger to complement Sane/Raz. The latter was a less pressing need, as Aguero could stay and play a part next season, with a 'dream signing' (Griezmann, Hazard, Werner etc.) covering all 3 attacking positions.
But injuries and City's growing chances to win titles have shifted the priorities, and we really need that 3rd winger immediately. It's an unfortunate situation that Sane was injured now, so close to the deadline, but we can't blame Txiki for it. Just my thoughts.

dont really want Mahrez, but there we are
Me neither and not at the prices quoted in the news :(

Why can’t one of our scouts go out and find a new Mahrez for under a million, I know it is a novel approach but it seems to work for Atletico, Monaco and others.

Essentially we are needing a new winger for 5 weeks before they then will be understudy, do we really need to pay 50m+ for this role ?

I know! Add in another Messi for £200k too.

While they’re out there, if they could bring in the next Pelle and Maradona on free transfers that would be great too!

Get a grip. It’s not your money, we need rotation in the wide positions and he’s one of the best wide players around.

Iheanacho will be a playing part in this

The Geordies will be sniffing around him and if we forgo the buy back clause as part of signing Mahrez and offer in excess of £60m then can see Leicester doing a deal.

I hope so anyway

He'd go in rotation. He'd play as much as Bernardo Silva does taking load off already overworked sterling / sane. He's 26 so we'd have him for years.

I don't get why people aren't getting this. We are fucking loaded, are still in all 4 competitions and have two, yes, two fit forwards to go in 3 positions.

It's worked out well doing it on the cheap before hasn't it. Nery Castillo, bianchi, I could go in.

We need a proven player now, not a risk or an academy player. Someone to go in score goals and set them up at the very highest level. Riyad can do this. Track record of it. What's 50 million to you? Why do you give a shit if it's 200 million. Fuck the media and their narrative.

Give el senor what he wants and sit back and enjoy the ride

Exactly. I can't really understand this obsession with transfer fees.

PFA player of the year when Leicester won the title. Pep won't stand any nonsense if we do sign him. Can't understand why people on here don't want him? Quality player...get him in that Blue shirt!

I find it hard to fathom that a club of our stature would spend over £50m on a player just to cover for a moderate injury to one of our own.

If Mahrez was always our alternative to Sanchez, why wait until the last minute to try and sign him?

There’s something odd and perhaps unethical about this potential deal.
