Which one?
Which one?
If Sterling goes then he goes. He is far from being irreplaceable.
Pep has honed the rough diamond to what he is now and without a world class coach like Pep
Sterling will steadily regress. Sterling needs Pep and City more than Pep and City need Sterling.
I honestly wouldn't lose a wink of sleep if he left at any time.
You have missed the point, as have others. They both have/ had contracts and are equally free to see them out. I don't hold any grudges to Milner for looking after himself and. I am sure the many on here berating him would have done exactly the same. What he has done afterwards though is a different argument. The question was posed earlier today what would people think of Sterling if he did the same and simply ran down his contract, well not many have offered their views, so why some think I m trolling is quite laughable.Millner's situation was totally different. He is older and isn't a game changing player like Sterling. While being a good professional he just isn't in the same category as a player but a good level below. If Sterling leaves I presume it will be to a top European club, probably one of the Spanish two. Millner went to Liverpool which at the time he moved were a good level below us. He moved for a big pay day pure and simple. Even then he wouldn't have got any stick if he wouldn't have started bad mouthing us in the press.
He saw out his contract which he was totally entitled to do
Bloody hell,i agree.
Stop it Tom,youre making me nervous.
Different scenarios for starters, even though Milner ran down his contract for his own financial gain, City fans accepted it more with him being more of a squad player rather than a first team regular. He also left to play a different position (which he didn't for a few years) so I think we was a lot more understanding. His behaviour afterwards has been why City fans have been angered by him.
We shown faith in Sterling, paid a lot of money for him off the back of a pretty average season for Liverpool. We have developed him whilst paying him handsomely for the privilege. Now if he wants a new challenge or to go elsewhere then that's perfectly fine however it is a c*nts trick to run the contract down. He could easily sign a new contract and still leave. If he keeps his performances up as he has then teams will still be interested regardless of how many years he has on his contract. We laugh at clubs like Arsenal who have allowed their star assets to run their contracts down and leave for a lot less than their value so we can't have it both ways. If he allowed to run his contract down leaving the club we love out of pocket then he deserves all the stick he gets.
You're losing it mate!
Tom. I haven't suggested that capability wise we are comparing the same, we would all agree we are not, and by some margin.
Looking at it from a commercial aspect though which is my point, they are identical in that the club offered a contract of employment for a fixed time and fore a given salary and are at liberty to run it to completion (as Milner did) irrespective of what he may or may not have been saying to the club as it was running down. Im not suggesting you fall into this camp, but I suspect many have a more biased view against Milner after what he has been spouting since leaving. In his shoes, I am sure many on here would have done exactly the same as Milner
Sterling can do exactly the same, he can sit and simply run his contract down and leave as Milner did. (for all we know, his agent might be recommending this)
We have no idea where Sterling is with this and will unlikely know until he either renews or leave, but I would say that I think many on here have this romantic notion that players have an allegiance to the clubs they sign for.
Time will tell

Wow, you almost sounded scouse like then :)
As much as I like Pep he isn't the only coach in the world that can make players better and he we must have seriously overpaid at 50m for a rough diamond.
He was a good player when we got him, he is a better player now and we would struggle to replace him without spending huge sums of money, he is currently twice the player of Mahrez, our record transfer fee (fingers crossed he will settle in asap).
Selling him for a reduced fee may well be cheaper long-term than breaking the wage structure and being unable to sign players due to the 7% wage growth cap.Different scenarios for starters, even though Milner ran down his contract for his own financial gain, City fans accepted it more with him being more of a squad player rather than a first team regular. We did overpay for Sterling. We seriously overpaid for Sterling. The scousers had our trousers down on that one - no doubt about that at all.
He was a good player when he joined us but Suarez made him (and Sturridge) look much better than he actually was. Pep has improved him beyond all recognition since he joined us. I agree there are other world class coaches apart from Pep but you can count them on one hand.
What Pep has done for him is immense both from a footballing point of view and a mentality point of view.
As another poster has already said I would be far more worried if Sane was fucking about with his contract like Sterling is. Or KDB or Sergio for example. For me he's a very good player but far from being irreplaceable and I don't believe he would prosper at the rate he has at any other club like he has under Pep with us. Either he want's sign a new enhanced contract with us and stay at an elite club that will only get better and win more trophies or he doesn't. If he doesn't then sell him.
To be fair to Mahrez, I don’t remember Sterling ripping up many trees in his first or second seasons with us. In fact he was the boo boy up in SS3 for a while.
So that is why it is important to retain a player that is already settled and doing the business.
It's a job like any other so they are not required to be loyal, they will do what is best for them and their families like any other employee,so long as they are honest about their intentions then fine, how do you know what he wants to do?Of course players can run down contracts, you called them professional though for doing so which to me isn't. Whoever that person is, be it a City player or someone completely irrelevant where there are no emotions involved. For me it's loyalty, Sterling has been treated very well by City. I don't follow any romantic notion that he should have an allegiance to us for life there is a difference between just wanting to leave and running a contract down. Morally for me it is wrong for anyone to do that, like I said it wouldn't harm him in the slightest to sign a new deal (whilst getting paid more) keep playing as well as he is and then letting someone buy him. What he wants to do is leave the club, bagging a huge signing on fee and leaving us without a penny for him and having to spend a fortune to replace him. All of course if he does run down his contract by the way.
If you can accept that behaviour from someone, shafting the club you love and support then fair enough.
But currently he is way ahead of Sane in production numbers but you would be more worried if the roles were reversed, KDB and Kun I can understand, I like Sane and think he will be huge for us with his best years ahead, exactly the same as Sterling, in fact you are only kidding yourself if you don't think Sane and agent will be doing the exact same thing when it is his turn to renew his contract.
It is a sad state of affairs that footballers think they are worth 100-500k a week wages, so far removed from the normal working men's game that we grew up with but it is what it is.
You will not replace Sterling cheaper than what he wants if the rumoured wage is 275k a week, there is nobody as good as him that will cost us 5.2m in the extra wage he wants.

similarly to Milner i.e. a professional who honoured his side of his contract
which is what?Need to pay him what he wants.
