Sterling’s contract - three year extension confirmed

I think this is the beginning of the long overdue reality check for the football fraternity. The pay up at all costs culture has reached its peak. Most of the growth potential for the ELP has be realised and players are in for a rude awakening if they believe the golden goose is immortal. That said in the midst of all the madness 275 K a week is reasonable. I would guess he could earn well in excess of this in Spain.

I would love nothing more than for the wages these guys earn to be reduced back to realistic levels, what that level is I don't know.

Clearly neither you or I know. But he's a key player and a very important part of our team and he's getting better. He wins games for us. We won't be able to replace him for £45 mill.

The "Pay him what he wants" club must know as they seem to know it will have no knock on effects to our wage structure or morale with others who have improved under Pep and might think they also deserving of more money.

We ill pay him what we value him at, whether that is what he wants is his call

What do you value him at?

Personally I would only put KDB, David Silva and Aguero ahead of him. He's more influential in games than Sane and Bernado. Do you know what he is on contract wise now?

What I, you or any other fan value him at is totally irrelevant. The club will know exactly what they value him at and that will be the basis of discussion around his contract.

I have no idea what he earns today other than what has been posted on here

NB, I think B Silva is our most improved player and at least as influential

To fair, I don't think he's saying that Sterling isn't valuable; he was just trying to make the argument that paying a player whatever he demands would have a negative effect moving forward inasmuch as the rest of the pack would start making waves.

I agree, maybe a little loose in that remark. But I would say I would pay him on a par with the club's best players.

I think I'd agree with that. He's not in the DeBryune and David Silva tier but he's one of the most important players in the team and despite his finishing woes at times, the team tends to play better when he's in it. His movement is a big part of the reason our attack is what it is.

It's a job like any other so they are not required to be loyal, they will do what is best for them and their families like any other employee,so long as they are honest about their intentions then fine, how do you know what he wants to do?

I Don't, the hypothetical question was asked by another poster. How would people react if he ran his contract down. Of course you wouldn't mind, you'd probably throw a party and have a whip round for the lad. He isn't required to be loyal, my point isn't an issue with leaving it's the running contract down side of things. If he's that desperate to go, for him and his family then go now. You wouldn't wait another 18 months or however long. I don't want him to sign a contract for life and never leave I just think after everything it would be a kick in the teeth to all involved at city if we didn't get a penny for him.

Tom. I can see your beef now because you are interpreting what I said wrongly. I never said they he was professional for running down his contract

Sorry, I read it wrong more than anything. Apologies.

Yep agree entirely, his movement is excellent and his finishing is getting better.

Many don't want to acknowledge it but if he leaves there is no way we're getting an upgrade or a player that could match his output currently..They are all at top clubs.
Pep's system helps him but the only better RWs in Europe are Messi,Mbappé and full-flow Bale and scary that Heem is nowhere near his peak.Anyone else will have to be a 'project' player and even then for a player for our level and the way the market is there's no way we'll be paying less than 60 M £ for such a player and to factor in the 'replacement's' wages,we can't afford to lose him and all parties know it.He currently holds all the cards.
Been our most consistent player this season and only Aguero has scored more than him and whilst he might not be the most aesthetically pleasing player in our squad like Sané or Bernardo are but no one other than Aguero/KDB comes close to his clutchness.

No-one knows what is going on,what he wants to do or what money he is asking for, your inclination is to assume the worst in him as you always do,we have and are letting plenty run their contracts down but this won't happen with a 23 yr old as he is too valuable so that won't happen so put that stick away,it will get sorted one way or another and life will go on
