Football Leaks/Der Spiegel articles

What has been said is that Manchester City is a PR tool for the UAE . Well that didnt work out well did it ? If that was the plan why did they buy City ? Liverpool would have been alot more easy becouse of how pro Liverpool the media is . So I think that it does not add up.

Genuine question which maybe more IT savvy people may be able to answer

They claim to have obtained stolen or hacked emails and documents. How can they prove they came from City? We could genuinely claim we’d never seen them before! Also how could they prove that they hadn’t been doctored or even completely made up?

As far as I know we haven’t committed a crime, just allegedly broke some football rules, so the police won’t get involved and we won’t be under any obligation to make our IT systems available for inspection or interrogation under warrant

At the moment UEFA are taking no action at all and it seems unlikely that they will do anything. Their response has been a couple of statements which are, if anything, rather defensive and self-justificatory. Der Spiegel now appears to be scraping the barrel with the Tevez affair to the point that their next demand is likely to be a re-opening of the handling of the 1903-4 affair. The only people to respond are the fans of certain other clubs and if we think they will ever wish City the best we are living with the cuckoos. Journalists will jump at a juicy story like this and make it as sensational as they possibly can. But at the moment, and I suspect permanently, the club has no case to answer and should not do anything to suggest it has.

I'm sick to death of this.

I refer you to exhibit A

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progression_of_the_British_football_transfer_fee_record

If it's against board policy I apologise.

We appear ONCE in this list - at the very start of the current journey.

I submit your honour that money has ALWAYS ruled football - it's not like we bribed match day officials is it *cough Italy*

We also don't go around our rival teams hoovering up their latest talents to ensure we lead our league by 15 points at Xmas *cough Bayern*

People in glass houses should be thinking long and hard about stone throwing.

We took a look at what corrupt regulations were being brought in to stop us and we "bypassed" them. Do I care how - no. Should other clubs - they will through jealousy.

I'm not comfortable with some other issues - but that was up to the Premier League/FA to decide with their "fit and proper" test.

So in short - everyone of these hypocrites can kiss my ass. City fans can just get on with enjoying our beautiful game

I've been reading through the reddit AMA session last night, were many late good questions remained unanswered.
They said the amount of 70 million documents alone is a hint that it probably is no fake, as it would have taken too long to produce all that. Hm...

Talking about their work procedures they were stressing the importance of responsibility they have as investigative journos.
Any single sentence they are using in those leaks were tested in terms of plausibility and reviewed by Spiegel's own lawyers, they said.

They have been setting up an internal IT platform independent from internet to have a high standard of security for those data and communication within the project.

Huge parts of private documents not connected to the stories in some way remain unleaked, they said.

They just follow their feeling that something is going wrong and hope that formal investigations from other authorities will follow their leaks.
They are driven by the idea of stopping leading powers and big money to do just what they want, more or less,
following kind of a romantic view about good old football.

I don't condone the language but his overall point is that we did everything we could to increase revenue/reduce costs and it's come back to bite us on the arse somewhat. More than anyone else outside the club probably, I understand what we did and why we did it. Personally I don't much care but looking at it through non-partisan eyes, we've suffered reputational damage that could have been avoided. I don't think we'll suffer any more consequences than that mind you and I hope the club take the same ruthless, win-at-all-costs approach to whoever hacked us.

Why don't we start banning these horrible journos from the stadium that are happy to eat our lunches and enjoy our hospitality but write shit about us.
The club needs to be more robust with the media.

So, let me get this right, you think in 2011/12 we should not have done everything we could to maximize revenue and minimize costs but rolled over and allowed a re-engineered FFP to significantly damage us. If we had gone down that path we would now, arguably, be a club without a PL title, without this team and without this manager - possibly even without our current owners. Seems strange retrospective advice indeed from one who has had so much to say throughout these pernicious attacks. Maybe you are right though, an extra £50m without any fuss and we'd still be where we are now without offering the cartel this particular avenue of attack. I think they wouldn't have had to bother, we wouldn't be a threat now, but if things had panned out as they have do you seriously believe they wouldn't have gone down another route to try to destroy us?

Because if one side gains an advantage from the interception, it will not be a level playing field in court. Essentially, it would be unfair.

Well we'll probably see how good their lawyers really are.

At the end of the day 70million documents(which they simply can't have read as that would take YEARS, they must have gone straight after City which is quite telling) didn't get gifted to some guy who tells people to call him John nor would these unnamed "connected" people be legally allowed to pass confidential information on to him I would have thought. The fact that they are going with this obvious lie that "they weren't hacked he just knows everyone" is reason enough to question their integrity and there was an obvious Bayern Munic flavour coming through the more words they wrote, by the 4th article it was too obvious to anyone with any sense.

Have they turned over any of the documents yet?

The only reason I ask is because if they actually exist then we all owe the paper a thank you for making them inadmissible in court.

Just some maths to highlight how large a number 70million is, at a rate of 1 document per minute(which is unheard of) with no breaks, 24hours a day, 7 days a week(impossible without a large team) they will have finished reading in: 133.09270 Years

https://www.calculateme.com/time/minutes/to-years/70000000

It would be more interesting to learn how many documents relate to City or maybe they don't know yet. Seems like they did search filter: find "man city" ...but they have no agenda right?

Surely De Siepgel are in serious breach of GDPR and have no legal rights to hold the documents All companies will have a legal statement on the bottom of their emails as to confidentiality and the right to see the contents. They also gave no right to pass the information to another party

Yep.

The most annoying argument I'm seeing repeated by other fans, who make no attempt to argue with what City fans know FFP really is, is that "City agreed to abide by these rules whether they think they are bent or not and then they broke them". That's the most bullshit argument in all of this, there was no choice other than to not take part in the Champions League at all... do these idiots even hear themselves or know how stupid a "choice" that is? Not only would we lose champions league money, exposure to grow the fanbase/viewership worldwide but we'd have struggled to sign the top players we've signed since FFP came in and possibly even keep the top players we already had.

We still don't even know if they have uncovered much that UEFA didn't already know, as Marcotti pointed out:
Or they could have taken the PSG route. Which, as the documents reveal, was simply to repeat incessantly that UEFA were wrong, that the mega-sponsorship deal with a single Qatari entity (the Qatari Tourism Authority) was a legitimate contract at fair market value. When UEFA, as part of the FFP process, hired independent marketing experts to determine that, no, it was actually overvalued by a factor of 80, they negotiated their punishment down as best they could, took it on the chin and settled.

Did they get a worse punishment than us? I don't recall that being the case and if not, why if they did just claim UEFA were wrong and make no attempt look like they were going in the right direction? That either points to bias against City or that they did in fact know everything grounded in fact(der spiegels opinions notwithstanding) that has been leaked.

If they are so driven to stop the leading powers how come there’s nothing about the G7 teams ?
It’s just a witch hunt against City, I look forward to the response from my beloved Blues, f4ck em all.
