No worries. Likewise - I’m not risking it and sitting in a ground with 50,000 people. It doesn’t make any sense.

Scientists are advising that concerts should be cancelled for the rest of the year, it's a bit strange that concerts will be put to one side because of the risk but we could in theory walk into a full stadium with the blessing of the government and football authorities.

This has to be just about the money it can be about nothing else.
 
Mexico1970. The government will maybe consider it not such a high risk due to it being out doors, and everyone to wear masks. Thus they hope that the virus will not spread. That should be fun when everyone tries to shout for there team.
 
If this gov lift a ban on any sport or potential crowds gathering then they are idiots who never deserve a seat in parliament again.

small business need help first with measures in place for them not billionaires. Nhs need test first end of. I won’t mention the hundreds still dying every day.

the public have become desensitised already. We have no cure, no vax (not that I’m sure that’s a good way to go either) I honestly don’t even see a real plan. This virus will have many more waves & it will mutate. This virus is as serious as it gets & is here for many years sadly in my opinion.

stay safe blues. I miss city but the way this is being managed leaves a sour taste for football for me. They had a great opportunity to take football back to the real fans & the community but decided to go the other way.

Agreed. I wasn't giving my approval, just posting it to stimulate some Mrs Merton style debate. I certainly wouldn't be in a hurry going back to a packed (or not, seeing as it's the "Emptihad"™) stadium.
 
Fcuking media in joyous mood because Germany are going to start there league in 2 weeks! Funny they don’t mention that they have nil deaths we had 600+ yesterday! The narrative by the football media is disgusting been none stop since lock down! If the government let football start before the death toll drops to at least single figures it’s done for one reason money and the pressure of the premier.
 
tolmies hairdo if what you are saying is true then the whole of the Premier League board should resign on mass. In that I include the new head of the Premier League Gary Hoffman he should now put his new job on the line and say "This is not going to happen and if you cannot get your own testing equipment from some other source. The whole of the Premier league season will be declared null and void. There are no ifs and no buts. We will not compete with the NHS and put patients lives at risk, just because you want to finish this Premier League season.
 
bluemoon32 that's what I have been saying along where is the head of the PFA in all of this, to finish the Premier League season. I and all football fans want to know is has he (Gordon Taylor) actually asked or balloted his members if they want to start finish this season 2019/20 or to declare it null and void. If he has not then why not. This appears to me that he does not care about then players or their health at all.

I was about to make the same two points. If anyone thinks this government is going to do anything about this then think again. The comments from and Hunt and Hancock on Monday about lifting the nation's spirits and being open to a return of football was the softening up part for a decision that's already been taken driven by pressure from financial interests. On Monday I fully expect the clubs to vote in favour of returning.

Factor X kicks in at some undefined point after that, this factor being the reaction of the wider public to seeing PPE apparently being easily acquired by the rich football industry in the face of shortages in the NHS and care homes. Much will be made of the clubs funding this themselves but that's not the point. This is akin to private sector health care using financial heft to deprive public health care.

How this will play out is anyone's guess. You would think given the vast majority of the public have zero interest in football and are therefore (believe it or not) currently blissfully unaware of all this, there could be a massive public outcry but you never know. Ithink the government will have thought of this so it'll be interesting to see their spin. A bit of jingoism following VE Day this weekend will go a long way as well - after all, the Germans are restarting and anything they can do we can obviously do better having won the war and that sort of thing, innit.

Any Sun headline suggestions?

On the flip side, can you imagine how many extra arguments this will cause when non-football loving wives are stuck indoors with their fellas who are just watching game after game after game, what with the format these guys are putting forwards. There are much more important parts of the economy who are completely fucked due to this, what makes football any more important to them? That's right, shit loads of powerful people losing money.

The media wont report it it’s self interest! Why has none of the media picked up on the premier outbidding the nhs on PPE?

In fairness also @bluemoon32 & @karen7 , they DO have a prick of a CEO that is just as about as much use as the proverbial choccy fireguard, I don’t usually ever believe the football media these days, but when this alleged drunken, gambler toe-rag apprently states there may be shorter halfs, and not a word about the welfare of players, well this to me says everything about him!

Saw that in Germany on the news earlier, photographic cardboard cut outs of the clubs supporters being placed on their seats at the stadium of one of the cluns, perhaps the FA and PL can do the same, this time though with 30,000+ and counting still, cardboard photos of those poor souls that have died from this dreadul disease. SHAMEFUL

Please convey to your cabinet colleagues my disquiet at the prospect of professional football restarting any time before August. Far from lifting the nation I believe most people are disgusted at the attempts that vested interests are going to start again. We all know it is just about their profitability, no one cares about results in this crisis. The thought that covid 19 could be spread through the resumption of even closed doors sport and the buying of vital tests by football clubs fills me with revulsion.”

here’s the reply

“I am emailing on behalf of David to thank you for your email about the restart of elite football.

David is grateful to you for bringing your concerns to his attention.

Given the important issues you raise, David has forwarded your email to the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport to ensure you receive the most comprehensive response. David will be in touch with the Department’s reply.

In the meantime, please let me know if David can be of any further assistance with this or any other matters in the future.”

The NHS needs testing kits, the key workers need testing kits - what do the public think is actually happening when the cash-rich Premier League are trying to procure them just to get football on again?

Our NHS have it hard enough battling with other countries for what limited supply chain is already out there - without companies gouging prices.

We also saw it this week with the governor of California paying £1bn for PPE from China - he has basically told the rest of the US it is none of their business what they paid.

My dad is 67 and has COPD - this week I tried to get him a test online because he had a sore throat and some other minor symptoms.

Guess what? A text back to say there was no tests available right now in the area and no kits that can be sent out.

Yet the Premier League and the TV companies have enough cash at hand to ensure wealthy, supremely fit athletes such as Raheem and Pogba can get tested twice a week.

Not to mention, the kit man, the security guards, the massuse, the groundsmen.

Those people aren't to be blamed, they are wrongly being painted as the bad guys. - It is the Premier League, BT and Sky who should be fucking ashamed.
